A winter storm is supposed to hit Texas this week.
How worried are you that we'll see a repeat of last year? Have you prepared?

I hear this and I think of King if the Hill. I'm in Pennsylvania where we could get 4 feet and still are expected to get to work on time. My brother in law was in Georgia a few years ago and the whole city he was in... I think Savannah... Shut down for a half inch of snow. I know it's all about the states preparedness and whatnot but I think it's funny.

Woke up and we still have power. That's a good sign, right?

I sort of wonder what Star Trek actor is going to say Texans deserved to die this year if there's a repeat of last time. I suppose Whoopi's too busy, so maybe Marina Sirtis can try to keep her streak going.

Pennsylvania can handle that shit because the buildings are completely different, most people here don't have anywhere near the kind of winter clothing or backup generators, fireplaces, etc. While most of the fatalities were from the cold, more than a dozen died from carbon monoxide poisoning attempting to heat themselves, had medical equipment shut down, etc. I get it, our experiences are very different, but if southerners were finding comedy in people in PA dying from heat strokes from a brutal summer or something, it might leave a sour taste in your mouth, too.

No issues for me so far, knock on wood.
I think a lot of the concern is residual trauma from last year. Snow totals are nowhere near what they were, and it'll be back above freezing tomorrow.
Doesn't make the roads any less dangerous for the immediate future but I really don't think it's going to be nearly as bad as it was.

It's a lot shorter time frame and not as cold as "the big one" was. They should be fine.

Little snow and it's cold and half the local commerce takes a four day weekend.
Not mad at anyone for getting PTO, but Jesus Christ. Highways were genuinely dangerous for about 18 hours and that's the extent of this story.

Yeah... like when people in New York were making fun of Georgia for closing down the state for like half an inch of snow... my response was... yeah... they don't have things like road salt... because if they did someone would complain that they were wasting their budget on something that is generally unlikely to happen.

I don’t blame anyone for being overly cautious after what happened last year. Fortunately it wasn’t as bad this time.
