Ah all those people who stopped playing RDR 2 after Arthur died who hadn't played the first game.

Yeah it was definitely a lot to take in, as amazing as it is and I still love free roaming and messing about as John, I'll still need a while before I would play through the story again.

To me RDR2 is the GOAT, so when I went to replay the original I was a bit worried about it holding up and man…it’s still great lol.

Honestly, Red Dead Redemption is probably my favourite game post 2000. The pure joy I got from the simplest of things in that game, it was incredible. RDR 2 is incredibly good, but didn’t quite recapture the magic of the first one.
Also, I might be one of the few people I know who genuinely enjoyed Red Dead Revolver and played the f*** outta that on PS2 one summer

I do love how you accidentally graze a civilian it fails the rescue my horse mission I got that one beat. They want you to rescue their horse/wagon or recapture escaped prisoners, but they're waiting on a train crossing and won't even consider moving when a train is coming. Failed two of those random encounters on my current playthrough and lost honour because they got pasted by the train.

Brood Lone Wolf Funker , your Terry Funk avatar is still broken. Can you try using that one on your profile and see if it works? Anyway, RDR: I never bought the sequel due to it requiring too much hard drive space, but loved playing the first RDR, and the soundtrack was great.

For what it's worth since making the thread I've started replaying 2, good ways into chapter 2 at the moment. Still a long ways to go but kind of still figuring out how I feel about revisiting it; it's easy to get sucked into for hours when playing it and there is a lot to love about it for sure, but there are a lot of little annoyances (and just some stupid bullshit, like how after one mission I somehow got a wanted level for picking up my own hat) and having not played it today I haven't really felt a particular desire to get back to it and been playing other stuff instead. Planning to press onward with it but kind of just not been in the mood tonight.
That said chapter 1 still suuuucks. Just way too drawn out and boring of a tutorial, especially since the tutorial aspects carry over into a couple of the early chapter 2 missions.

I've never bounced off a sequel quicker and harder, especially for a franchise for which I've considerable affection, than I did with RDR2. Though, in RDR2's defense, I struggle to gel with pretty much any open world experience since the 1-2 of Witcher 3 then Breath of the Wild — I'd pretty much consider that genre boxed for a while.

Oddly enough, Chapter 1 is one of my favourite chapters in the game, as it's one of the few occasions in the story where the gang actually feels like they're desperately in trouble and on the run.

Finished replaying 2 a bit ago and figures might as well talk about it here... motivated by stumbling onto the thread while trying to see if we have one for Turning Red. Revisiting it definitely elevated my opinion of the game, am glad I gave it another whirl, though do think it kind of drags and I have a hard time seeing myself playing it a third time any time soon. Also I didn't really like the epilogue; it feels like virtually nothing happens for most of it.
