So idk how this is gonna go but i figure the WWE and AEW sections have one so why not have one here for general questions or to comment on promotions, or matches that don’t have their own thread
Guess i’ll start with I finally got to watch the parts of Beyond’s day 91 event that I missed due to the streaming issues they were having.Alec Price vs Marcus Mathers was a great match those two could be huge in the future. Matt Cardona vs RSP was also a good match

It's kind of wild to me that MVP was the first holder of NJPW's Intercontinental title, back when it was used more akin to their current US title, but he has never won WWE's version of the IC title. I know he's more of a manager these days, but still, it's a bit surprising.

It was a good reign, and the feud/unlikely team with Matt Hardy was fun, it's just a bit surprising given how they've given a lot of guys IC title reigns willy-nilly that he never got the nod.

Has any promotion ever had somebody wrestle a bear on their TV show?

Hadn't heard of them until recently but it seems they can get relatively big names and fly people in so must have some money behind them?

I don't agree with the Jericho quote (I think it was him) about "you should always put your opponent over on the mic because it's more impressive when you beat them." In-ring sure, always make your opponent look as good as you can but on the mic I don't want rivals praising each other. If it's a face vs. face thing or a random match with no build sure but not when there's supposed to be bad blood. Have you ever been in a fight in real life and stopped just before punches were thrown to compliment the other person?
Look at boxing and UFC. The biggest fights are usually the ones where people genuinely think the fighters hate each other. The facade might disappear after the match when they show each other respect but no one wants to see that beforehand. That's a boring build. I want them to tell each other "you ain't shit, I'm gonna wipe the floor with you and eat your family." It's way more realistic and it's just basic mind-games, no one with a functioning brain would believe that someone really sucks because someone who doesn't like them and is trying to get into their head insulted them.
Rock would absolutely trash people on the mic and those were some of my favorite promos ever. Billy Gunn didn't fail as a main eventer because Rock made fun of him. He failed because he wasn't good enough.

Was he even on the same brand as the IC Title for an extended period of time? I think he got traded to Raw during the same draft that the midcard titles first got swapped

He failed because he wasn't good enough. I always took that quote as don’t call someone useless, old or just generally bad as if you beat them then that means little to nothing and doesn’t progress your career, and if the booking changes and they beat you then you lost to the useless/old/generally bad person which makes you look worse. It’s not about complimenting your opponent, it’s about preserving the quality of your win/career should you lose.

It just means you interact with them in a way that adds value. There's Hogan promos that demonstrate both. Hogan-Savage, Hogan-Warrior are great examples of putting each other over in your promos, but in WCW Hogan frequently talked about his opponents in a way that was dismissive, as if they weren't quite in his league.

I couldn't find another appropriate thread for this so I'm throwing it here.
The past little while I've been thinking about the higher power reveal and I know it would make no sense but I keep imagining JR being the higher power. Could even start with aw sonofabitch it's me austin. And go on about how it's payback for the stunner in 97.
I know this is pretty nonsensical but I had to post it somewhere lol

I'm tied of big meaty men wasting large chunks of a match having chop battles. Use your power moves!
Not that keen on them in general actually but it's particularly annoying from the largest guys.

Been watching some 86 NWA/WCW...the most recent August 30th, 1986.
Anyways...this team of Bill Dundee and Buddy Landell is a head scratcher.
What's the point?!?
In their interviews they talk a LOT of trash, willing to take on anyone, and of course all the zingers aimed at Flair.
If there were any genuine plans for this team, I wouldn't have a problem with it. As we all knew then and now, there are no plans. It eventually fizzles out.
As far as I'm concerned, it's a waste of valuable TV time.
I did laugh at the Flair digs..this was the second or third time in two years where they attempt to get a Flair-Landell feud going. Didn't Dusty shit can it in 85?
This is also that period where they were pushing Dick Murdoch...who really sticks out in this environment. He doesn't belong..at least not as a singles wrestler.
This is when Wahoo won the National title. I always liked Wahoo but they're wasting the belt here. I think this belt gets phased out soon. Should've let someone who really could've used it get a run with it.
Barbarian Sam Houston
This is also when the Kansas City Jayhawks are here. Ugh. One of the last Russian feuds is wasted on them.
This is the episode where Cornette is co-hosting with Bubba as his bodyguard. He does a good job.. especially with the interviews.
This is that quirky period where precious time is being wasted on a Nikita- Ron Garvin feud...and Magnum feuding with Jimmy. I still don't understand why either feud is happening.
I've wondered if it was meant to be the very early phase of an eventual Magnum heel turn. Can't be a coincidence that Nikita and Magnum are now feuding with Garvins. Having said that, Dusty would of course have been in the thick of a Magnum heel turn.
