m.youtube.com/watch?v=pkI_REN8syEGeorge Steele is in character during this 1985 ad for this computer yet at the end, he talks like a normal human. Amazing how Vince didn’t fire him after this like he did with King Kong Bundy when Bundy did an ad that he thought was only going to be seen overseas (my how times have changed) only to be surprised when it was shown in the states. Although to be fair, George did start speaking normally on WWE media as early as 1994 when WWE did an article on his movie Ed Wood.

I remember the Apter mags (Wrestling '85 to be exact) mentioning this ad. I was finding back issues of wrestling mags by the early 90s, but this was still pre-Internet, let alone pre-YouTube, so I wouldn't get to see it until, well, now.
Of course Apter added a joke at the end where Randall remarked that he'd been in some odd couples before.

It probably had less to do with the times and more with the men themselves. George was around a while working for WWWF/WWF so Vince probably had some loyalty to him. I remember Bret Hart saying George was an office stooge. He was an office guy in the late 80s, early 90s so he may have been a guy Vince trusted for info even in the earlier, mid 80s.
On the other hand Bundy was not a company guy. Outside of the two WWF runs and earlier territory runs he was never in a major company, most likely because the grind of being a company man didn't appeal to him. He's a guy who was super fan friendly at conventions but was very serious about making sure the promoter didn't stiff him or dealers weren't trying to con him. I met him 6 times with a few times being in private settings and seeing how he protected his persona from promoters and those wanting to make a quick buck. He's a guy who would say or do what he wants even if it goes against the company policies or the boss themselves and Vince probably knew that. He wasn't the type of guy to ask if he can do a commercial or TV or movie, he's going out and doing it.

George may have been an animal, but was Tony civilized? No, clearly not!

Great timing on this as today is the five year anniversary of his passing. So that's why meeting him when he was signing his book turned up in my Facebook memories. Must have reposted the pics. (Should be a video from the event on the YT in my signature. I did ask him why he never entered the ring at WM4, but I forget what he said and sadly that video seems lost to time)
