When naming a movie the title usually gives a hint of what’s going on… I will just name three at random.. Alien.. it’s about an alien… A Nightmare on Elm Street.. it’s about people having nightmares on a certain street (well there is nightmare scene in a school)… Driving Miss Daisy .. never seen it, but I assume Miss Daisy is the name of a race car of some kind. Anways, what are some movie titles that have nothing to do with the movie it’s the name of.. Is “Friday The 13th” actually set on a Friday on the 13th day of the month? I know it was named that cause after the success of Halloween the studio wanted another slasher film based on spooky day of the year. .. but I don’t remember if any of the Friday 13th films have ever been set during that day. Another one is “Godzilla’s Revenge” .. probably the worst of the Showa Era Godzilla films.. a film about a bullied kid who daydreams he’s on Monster island, and befriends Minillia who is now the same size of the child… the film uses a lot of stock footage, and introduces Gabara one of the silliest Kaiju to ever set foot in a Godzilla film (although he was given quite a make over in that Netflix anime that came out last year) .. anyway the western title is called “Godzilla’s Revenge”…. Godzilla is barely in this film (in new footage anyway) and doesn’t get revenge on anyone for anything. Trying to think maybe they implied the revenge was encouraging the bullied kid to stand up to his bullies or some shit… but that’s a stretch. Anyway, what are some other irrelevant movie titles? . I will just cancel out “Never Ending Story” now because that’s the name of the book the Bastian reads, hence it’s relevant.. and I have never seen Naked Lunch so feel free let us know the two things wrong with that title

Troll 2 is not about trolls but goblins (and wasn't meant as a sequel to begin with)
The Pink Panther is the name of the diamond at the centre of the plot of the film (Return of the Pink Panther plot also revolves around it) so none of the other titles with it in the name are relevant to the original

The movie Fargo takes place in Minnesota. The only thing that happens in Fargo is Jerry hiring the kidnappers.

I admit I haven't seen the movie in full, just know what it's generally about...
But "Cloverfield" doesn't seem like it is that relevant to the actions that happen in the movie to me.

Edge of Tomorrow. Studio meddling nixed the wanted title of Live Die Repeat. So instead the director made it the tagline and well...

Halloween Resurrection killed the franchise for a bit.
Or is that more ironic than irrelevant?

A great man once said that Naked Lunch had at least two things wrong with the title.

Naked Lunch refers to seeing the reality of food at the end of your fork. "The title means exactly what the words say: naked lunch, a frozen moment when everyone sees what is on the end of every fork." Burroughs said in an introduction for the book and noted that it was first suggested by Jack Kerouac. Keroauc got it from Allen Ginsberg, who misread "Naked Lust" as "Naked Lunch" while reading aloud fron Burroughs' manuscript for "Queer" and the title stuck as Burroughs worked on what eventually became the book.
All of which should be taken with a grain of salt, as with everything the Beats said about their work.

"Oscar", Stallone's 1991 comedy about a mobster going straight. The character Oscar only appears in one scene at the end of the movie, I don't think he has more than 2 lines.

Bloodsucking Freaks only has brain-sucking, which is debatably blood sucking.

Not once did it ever show me how to kill one.

ITT: people confusing "non-literal" with "irrelevant." This is actually an interesting subject, can I respectfully as a non-mod ask that we try to stick with it?

Heaven's Gate.
Cimino was so obsessive over every detail of the film, but chose to name it after a skating rink.
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire would be another. The goblet itself plays a relatively trivial part of the plot.

This Island Earth - The original novel explored the idea of Earth being used by two warring alien races in the same way islands in the Pacific were used by the US and Japan during WWII. The movie went in a different direction, but kept the now-irrelevant title.
