WWE just uploaded this. What was everyone's expectations? Sting? Other?
Did anyone else like these promos and videos that lead to the 2 21 11 reveal?
I believe TNA did one too for Sting.

TNA’s version with Sting was the funniest, most transparent “TNA copies WWE” thing ever.

I was expecting Taker, but I've heard over the years they genuinely were supposed to be for Sting and fell through at the last minute. Not sure if that's just an urban legend, though.

The teasers are also available on WWE’s YouTube channel.
When the first one aired, my immediate reaction was that it was for The Undertaker. I probably wouldn’t have thought of Sting had it not been for everyone freaking out in the Raw thread.
I remember the board dissecting them frame by frame, pointing out clues for who they might be for.

Yeah, I think with the benefit of hindsight, there was nobody it could be BUT Taker after that second one with "ain't no grave."

I had hoped it would be Sting. The videos were fun though. I miss stuff like this and the secret Jericho videos before he came back. Fun mysteries to build up interest.

Imagine being so over that you can have a 10 minute segment without uttering a single word and the crowd is going crazy the whole time and completely understands what's going down. There was no need for words. The story was simple. Undertaker retired HHH's best friend the year before so he was back to try and do what he couldn't and end the streak.
That 2009-12 series with Undertaker vs. Michaels/HHH was legendary and the entire over-arching story beginning in 2007 is probably the best thing WWE has done in the past 20 years. It all technically began in 2007 when Vince put the career threatening stipulation on Flair which led to:
Flair v HBK at Wrestlemania.
Batista getting pissed at HBK for retiring his mentor/friend.
Jericho getting involved in the Batista/HBK feud, saying Michaels is an egomaniac who secretly loved ending Flair's career.
Jericho smashes Michaels' head through the Jeritron.
HBK completely unravels, he gets destroyed and concussed by Jericho at Judgment Day, his wife gets punched at Summerslam, he loses the blowoff match to Jericho at No Mercy then the recession in late 2008 plus bad investments result in him going broke.
JBL takes advantage of Michaels needing the money and makes him his lackey.
HBK beats JBL in a stipulation match to regain his freedom and finanical security.
Now full of confidence again and realizing he only has one goal left to accomplish in his career, HBK challenges Undertaker for Wrestlemania 25.
Michaels comes up short in a classic match but it eats at him for the next year and he gets more and more unhinged in his attempts to get another shot at the streak.
Michaels is so desperate to get the match, he costs Undertaker a chamber match which hands his bitter rival Jericho the world title.
Undertaker finally agrees to the rematch on one condition, Michaels puts his career on the line.
Undertaker retires Michaels at Wrestlemania 26.
A year later on 2/21/11, HHH returns to challenge Undertaker for Wrestlemania, looking to avenge his best friend's loss/retirement the previous year.
Undertaker beats HHH at Wrestlemania 27 but takes such a beating that he has to be carried out on a stretcher.
HHH says he was the "last man standing" and Undertaker is the one demanding a rematch this time, unsure if he's still got what it takes or if the toll of the streak is finally getting to him.
HHH finally accepts on the condition it's hell in a cell and bringing things full circle, Michaels returns as special referee.
Undertaker defeats Triple H inside hell in a cell at Wrestlemania and the three of them embrace after the match.
I think the only thing that comes close to this is the Batista/HHH feud but as great as that was it was 6 months or so. This thing lasted 5 years with major players being Vince, Flair, Michaels, Batista, Jericho, JBL, Undertaker, HHH and all the other supporting players throughout.

I was pretty confidant they were for Taker, but man, some people sure they thought they were Sting. To an absurd degree. Finding "Sting" written in smoke on the screen.

Since JBL had the same idea that Michaels did of Two big name Texans wrestling in Texas.
