The way in which Garcia is presented in other promotions is vastly different than how he's presented in AEW. Yes, his record is a little padded cause he gets wins on Dark or Elevation with 2.0. but the dude's literally never won a singles match on Dynamite. Why should the crowd care?
Let him get a few actual wins on Dynamite over some real competition, then do the Bryan match. Maybe the idea is he'll join up with Bryan and now he'll become a killer, but I feel like there's always been a weird disconnect with Garcia where everyone's like "oh man, Daniel Garcia, watch out" because he's tearing it up on the independents and won BOLA, but he's lost every big singles match he's ever had in AEW and most trios matches.

The association with 2.0 probably doesn't help, on that front. He's supposed to be a stone-cold, methodical killer, but he runs with ineffectual loudmouth goofballs, so whenever they're out there with him, their ineffectual goofball aura (and how it affects the "power level" that they're booked at, so to speak) is going to rub off on him.

The thing is, I'm not even against a "serious" guy having goofball friends. It's just you have to be careful that you don't down-book the serious guy just because nobody takes his friends seriously.

The thing is, I'm not even against a "serious" guy having goofball friends. It's just you have to be careful that you don't down-book the serious guy just because nobody takes his friends seriously. I think up til now, they've gotten around that by having 2point0 be these static goofballs, and Garcia is a serious guy who's currently at their level by way of being new and young. There's this implication that 2point0 regard Garcia as their ticket upward, especially since Garcia's the one who's gotten a notable pin or two. 2point0 talk a big game and get Garcia into big matches that he can't win, but eventually, he will start winning. But this match didn't benefit from that dynamic, at all. Danielson started the fight, not 2point0, which takes away the thing that 2point0 add to Garcia. Garcia can pin Eddie Kingston in a tag match, but he's sure as hell not pinning Bryan Danielson in a singles match. He's more known to the audience at this point than Lee Moriarty, so Garcia looking good in the match wasn't surprising at all; and Danielson's coming off an angle that played on him being a cardio freak who maybe takes his time too much when he wrestles, so there's nothing impressive about lasting against Danielson.

I think having it as the main event was a mistake. Like I think it would've been fine for a midcard match, but not so much for the last match of the card.
Garcia is also very young and while a great talent in the making, isn't really there yet.

Why on earth do you book a storyline where the same thing happens three times, everyone knows the same thing will happen three times on the first night, and then the third one, when everyone's gotten tired of it, is put into the main event slot?

I feel like the MJF/Punk segment kind of confused the crowd and they didn't quite seem to hit the levels of the tag royal for pretty much the rest of the show, though at least it sounds like they recovered by Rampage. The Pac/Penta/House of Black segment was another one where the match proper seemed far quieter than I think we've come to expect from Penta matches.

Heel vs. Heel is only fun when they're trying to outcheat/out d-bag each other. And in tournaments, because usually there's a title/prize on the mine bigger than their evil bond.

The match before it was bad and took the wind out of the crowd

Garcia's gotten the crowd into several Rampage main events in the past I do agree it might've been best served to go somewhere else on the card just because Garcia himself didn't have the same sort of energy Lee did, and he wouldn't being a labeled heel.

I think the crowd was hot, but only when they had moments or things to pop for. Two heel technical wrestlers working a largely mat-based match don't create moments or things to pop for. As soon as Mox came out, the crowd went nuts.
I think it was a case of misjudging what kind of thing the crowd would be noisy for and not necessarily a sign that Garcia isn't clicking or that something is failing. The Danielson vs. Moriarity match would have done a lot better in front of that crowd, due to the alignments and the match itself having some fun spots in it. An explosive face wrestler against Garcia would have done better, too.

Daniel Garcia might be a good technical wrestler but that guy is as plain and vanilla as it gets.
He is a channel changer/fast forward for literally anyone who wants to be entertained.
If he had a cool look or personality, maybe people would be invested in his matches more.
There's only so much wrestling ability can do. And AEW have too many of these type of wrestlers.
I would argue the average fan would be more interested in Brian Cage than Daniel Garcia. Yet he's nowhere to be seen.

You're acting like Garcia killed the ratings when he had his match when in reality, about 950K people watched it, and that was with some pretty drastic news breaking across the world. You can throw a narrative out there all you want that he's bland, or does nothing for anyone, but Garcia imo is a really great technical wrestler who tells a great story in there, and has been put with a bevy of AEW's top guys for a reason in multiple main events across Dynamite and Rampage. He's still like 23, he's still developing as a whole, but you put these guys in these positions because you want the crowds to get introduced to them and to care. His TNT Title match with Guevara was well received, it got good reaction, as did his matches with Mox and Darby. Jungle Boy lost a whole lot too, until he didn't. It's not like the crowd actively turned on the match, or on Daniel. He did fine, it was just a no doubt kind of match with a lot of chain wrestling, which also makes crowds react differently than high spots. Garcia is also a heel, so crowds are not conditioned to cheer him, especially with Danielson asking if he put up a good fight, hence the reaction, as again, he's been portrayed as an asshole heel. And on a side note, I find it really pretentious as well, that you're telling a 23 year old that there's "Only so much wrestling ability he can do", like christ, lmfao

Garcia is Danielson circa 2002/3. Unbelievable in ring talent but hasn't quite found himself yet. That said though, the clips I've seen from PWG and Terminus where he's straight murdering people is a really good potential direction.
He'll be fine though and the vanilla midget brigade will eat their words like with Danielson.

I like Danny a lot, but Moriarty definitely is further along in getting his character and presence down. Garcia definitely needs more time, and the heel versus heel setup for it just did him no favors, either.

I also think it's really worth noting that Garcia lost an entire year of development and then he himself had to come back from a severe car accident. Like it's really awesome to not only see him doing this at such a high level already, but that his career didn't just end, let alone worse. Garcia's fun as 2.0's straight man, and I think writing a 23 year old off as bland, a channel changer, or someone who can't develop off of one match where the crowd wasn't totally into his shit (Ignoring all his other main event spots btw) just seems like a genuinely terrible take. He's quickly positioned himself as one of the future young pillars of the company at this pace, and has plenty of time, and some of the best promos to ever do it, to help him along as a character.

If I'm being honest pretty much any time Garcia's announced for something I tend to take a second to remember who the hell he is and always kind of settle on, "That third guy with 2point0." He's never made any kind of impression on me whatsoever. Which I guess to be fair is better than finding his partners to be actively irritating, though in general I'm kind of wondering why these three people need to be on TV seemingly every single week while vastly more interesting people rot away on Youtube.
