OK for those who know a good chunk of the movies nominated thus year, I've came up with a list of 10 movies from this year I want to watch, ranked from least looking forward to to most hyped. I just need help if one needs more hype or if I need to kill hype on one. I'm sincerely having trouble where to start watching while I have upcoming free time if I'm being honest
Disclaimer: All hype is simply off trailers. Please no spoilers. I haven't even read synopsis because I'm scared of stumbling on full summaries
10. Drive My Car
I love foreign films, but I'm not entirely on board with what looks like a road trip film.
9. The Worst Person in The World
This looks major cute, and I have never felt a line quite like "I love you buy at the same time I don't". It doesn't look like I'm gonna gain much from watching this, but doesn't look like much harm if I do watch it
8. Being the Ricardos
Points for JK Simmons, Aaron Sorkin and whoever is playing Ricky....points deducted because for the life of me I do not see Nicole Kidman as Lucille. It just feels like it's trying to be Renee in Judy
7. Belfast
I live for a good coming of age story, love the use of Everlasting Love, and you can't go wrong with Dame Judi
6. Tick Tick Boom
Biopic based on someone I admire? Check. Witty commentary and feels like I'm watching a deleted character from Pose? Check. The best Spiderman being in a Musical? CHECK. Only not higher because it does have a smidgen of Oscar Bait I feel
5. Nightmare Alley
Love the concept, live for the cast...but I've been exposed to Del Toro twice and both disappointed me to no end. I can give him a pass for the utter borefest of Don't Be Afraid of the Dark because he didn't direct it, but I strictly remember also being bored by Crimson Peak. Yes folks thar means his higher films like Pan's Labyrinth and Shape of Water I have not seen
4. The Lost Daughter
This looks like an absolute banger of a Thriller. So much intrigue and mystery in one trailer, and did not give much away.
3. Spencer
I've always been a KS fan. I enjoyed the Twilight films unironically and I even remember to this day the impact the film version of Speak had on me. This absolutely feels like a moment I want in on
2. West Side Story
Never seen the original so already a plus (Don't want to unfairly compare). Spielberg has disappointed me lately (Looking at you Ready Player One), but this feels like a down to earth musical. It feels like something I can absolutely get lost in and just lose track of time
1. The Tragedy of Macbeth
If there was ever something off a trailer to send goosebumps on my arm, it's Denzel mother f***ing Washington reciting Shakespeare that had a vibe I haven't seen since Training Day
ALSO as a side question, was thinking about going through different award seasons, anyone have good year recommendations?
