I know Undertaker is a universally beloved guy. and I am a huge taker fan. But what was the internet wrestling community opinion of him in 2001? I have read he wasn't very well liked and was kind of considered in 2001 The local man Stigma(think Kane and Big Show in 2014 2015 ) I liked his heel turn and the hair cut in 2002 I liked that era of him. but before that when he was the long hair ABA Taker in 2001 what did people think of him?

Scott Keith hated him and I think I remember him being quite unpopular in other places I visited on the net as a kid back then.

Or whatever one the first match with him and Angle happened. I want to say people were impatient with his "You must be this tall for me to sell for you" routine.

What I find particularly funny about that era is the number of people joking about him being old and a relic back then. I would love to go back in time and tell those people he won't retire for another 20 years just to see their reaction.

Undertaker was despised from pretty much the time I joined the IWC in 2000 until... some time after he ditched the Bikertaker gimmick entirely and went back to being the Phenom. He was particularly detested during the InVasion angle for his absolute unwillingness to give any of the Alliance guys anything, but there was also an incident where he sandbagged and no-sold A-Train so badly during a match that it killed A-Train's push.
EDIT - I know a lot of people looking back liked the Big Evil character, but I remember it being despised pretty hard, especially when he started using the dragonsleeper. Kind of like people who claim to like Worst Person Ever era Bossman, it didn't get 'popular' until 20 years after the fact.

He completely buried him after Unforgiven 2002 calling him basically a selfish piece of shit for not putting Brock over. Not knowing that he would the next month in Hell in a Cell.

Also, what he did to DDP was unforgiveable.

Also, what he did to DDP was unforgiveable. What’s really unforgivable is they expected us to believe DDP would want Taker’s wife, when he had Kimberly at home. DDP shouldn’t have been involved with Taker anyway.

He won the WON award for "Readers' Least Favourite Wrestler" that year.
I think that sums up the IWC opinion of Taker at that time.

Like I said, compared to post Angle match in 2000, that was nothing. Prove me wrong.

I actually remember the Big Evil character being relatively well-liked at the time. The Jeff Hardy match probably didn't hurt that perception, either.

No joke - I saw a meme way back in 2000 with The Rock and The Undertaker talking in the ring, and it was captioned "Can you talk in my good ear?"

If I remember correctly, the IWC hated him. However, the crowd was more casual at that time, and they loved him.

He was very divisive. Bikertaker turning heel did help matters, but it wasn't really until going back to the Deadman character that a lot of fans got more receptive to him again.

People complained about him online all the time but fans in the arenas loved him. He was basically what Brock Lesnar is now.
I’m shocked that he was only 36 at the time. He seemed 10-15 years older than that. He definitely came off like a kind of broken down old veteran who was close to retirement. I never would have guessed he’d have that renaissance he did and end up putting on classic matches at Wrestlemania for another decade or more.

As a kid I read somewhere he was born in 1961, so he seemed pretty ancient to me to. I was pretty surprised a few years later to see he was born in 1965 or whatever year.
