Two Australian legends of Cricket have died within hours of each other. Marsh was before my time so other than his reputation and records I don’t really know much about him. Warne however was most definitely during my time. All Australians love beating the English in Cricket but Warne seemed to live for it. That ball he delivered to Gatting still seems to defy physics no matter how many times you see it. Brutal couple of days for Cricket and Australia in particular. RIP to both.

Just seen Shane Warne. He was everywhere in the 00s. Shocking.
RIP both

Nobody in my family watches cricket but the first thing my Dad said to me today was "Did you hear Shane Warne died?". It just shows you much he transcended the sport.
RIP to both he and Rod Marsh

As I said on Twitter, to put this into perspective for the US and Canadian posters here, Shane Warne dying is on the same kind of tier for Australian sport as Kobe Bryant’s tragic passing was over there, an all-time legend and trailblazer in their sport taken way too early.
As for Rod Marsh, like DiG said, he was also a bit before my time, but he was very much so an all-time legend in his own right, especially as part of an absolutely lethal bowler/wicketkeeper combination with fast bowler Dennis Lillee. I believe they still hold the test cricket record for most shared wickets by a bowler and wicketkeeper.

If you were an English cricket supporter in the 1990s and 2000s you probably hated Warney for persistently tormenting our batsmen. Leg spin is a hell of a discipline to master, and he was the greatest of them all.
There's something about a cricketer dying too that always feels a bit different, one of the boys of summer leaving the crease before he should have in the case of Warney. It's very sad.

Shane Warne is by my reckoning one of the greatest sportsmen of all time. And taken tragically far too soon. RIP

Yeah, that sucks. Warne was very much a prominent part of my time watching cricket with my Dad, especially during that Ashes series. He was a character, to put it very simple and a great player to boot.
Marsh was a bit before my own time but sucks regardless they both died on the same day.
Rest In Peace to both.
