Along with Jeff Jarrett, it’s safe to say one of the pet projects of Vince Russo during his time as WWF head writer was D’Lo Brown. Between 97 and 99 D’Lo was featured prominently in the upper midcard and even made Euro-continental champion. His push down the card coinciding with Russo leaving the Fed.
Given this, is anyone surprised D’Lo didn’t follow Russo to WCW? Based on what we saw with Double J, There’s reason to believe D’Lo could’ve been given a main event push with one of his biggest advocates writing the show.
How do you think a D’Lo WCW run would’ve gone?

I feel bad for all the wrestlers who actually were in Russo's WCW.
I'm not about to start wishing that horror on wrestlers that weren't even there.

D'lo probably would have got the belt before Booker T had he followed Russo to WCW. It's obvious looking then and now that Russo wanted to turn WCW into WWF Lite. The giant WCW stage turns into a knockoff titan-tron, they turn Road Dogg's brother into Hippie Road Dogg, countless references to WWF by name, and just all the sports entertainment garbage. After doing a rewatch of 1999 two years ago during the first months of the pandemic, honestly I found '99 WCW more entertaining than '99 WWF until Vinny Ru go there in October. But yeah, D'lo was one of Russo's boiz and would have had the red carpet rolled out for him. Meanwhile, Booker T(while still probably getting a title win), wouldn't be the go-to guy because he'd be seen as a SUUUTHERNNN RASSLINNN guy.

What was the contract situation? He was probably locked in and by the time he was getting close WCW was no longer attractive.
Plus there was the racism problem. WCW had been dealing with a major racial discrimination lawsuit. And Russo was pretty bad. As much as he may have liked DLo there still may have been a ceiling.

He did a great job in TNA once he went there so I imagine he could've done pretty well there. For all the issues with Russo, several talent there did thrive like Jarrett and Storm.

I'm guessing it was a contract situation that kept him from jumping.
But at the same time, D'Lo was featured in the early days of TNA with Dipshit, I mean Russo at the helm and even in a TNA that lacked star power D'Lo couldn't end Jarrett's reign of terror. I seriously doubt in a WCW that still featured Sting, Flair, Goldberg and whoever else D'Lo would have gotten the title. I could see upper mid carder with the occasional world title shot on Nitro for D'Lo.

I feel like he'd get the US title or TV title, but world title feels unlikely.
I am almost positive D'lo has said he considered jumping, but that by the time he would have, WCW was in a really bad state. I do remember Godfather was going to leap, but Virgil pretty much said, "You can pay me like half of what you'd be giving him" and got the job.

I could be way off here but I thought I think I remember reading back in late 99 D-Lo and Hardcore Holly were rumored to be jumping with Russo

I mostly remember thinking the 450 leg drop was the coolest shit I'd ever seen back in the day.
But seriously D'Lo was really good, just a look that belayed his working ability and never had a great mouthpiece.

Depends when he got there. I could see him being the leader of the Misfits in Action in lieu of Bill DeMott if it was mid-2000, with him being the one feuding with Lance Storm in the autumn. Or maybe he got there in Russo’s first run and would have been just below Jarrett in the Silver nWo.

He would have become a triple champion (world, TV, US), but it wouldn't have counted.

He would have been upper-midcard at least

Now I want a CAW where D’Lo gets the Kiss Demon gimmick.
