Did this storyline feel like a waste to you or was it a heat seeking storyline they needed.
Seems to me the whole 96-97 invasion feels like it was centered around Lawler.

Probably the last good thing he did… okay the Miz feud was better than it had any right to be.

I just rewatched it week by week last year and it was good. I think it'd be remember a lot more fondly if the lighting at the second ECW PPV wasn't unwatachably bad to the point where Dreamer getting his hands on him was even seldom mentioned at a time that ECW replayed everything to death.
But yeah, it was the only way the crowd was going to boo RVD and Sabu, lead to some good surprises, and evolved into mega heat once Rick Rude turned against ECW.

It was pretty good. Lawler was a great heel when he wasn't going for low hanging fruit (like his terrible Goldust feud).

Well, both, really, and that's partly what made it so damn good.

That angle was insanely good, never mistake pervy Attitude Era Lawler for active wrestler Lawler. That dude is legit one of the smartest wrestlers ever, he just gets every aspect of ring work.

The last great ECW storyline. Absolutely not true. That's not even the last great ECW storyline from that year when you factor in Shane Douglas' climb back to the top at November 2 Remember 97. Then you look at 1998 and you have Storm and Candido as reluctant partners, Bam Bam vs Taz, the Dudleyz vs Dreamer/Sandman/Spike feud, Sabu vs Sandman, the Credible-Whipwreck-Lynn rivalry, and Credible vs Dreamer (Parts 1 and 2) all within the next year.
