This JD "Iceman" Anderson guy on Go-Big Show is definitely getting signed. He reminds me of Otis.

Sammy Guevara is a chump. Yeah seriously, he needs a heel turn or something. Something is not clicking as a face, and that's ignoring his no selling.

I’ll say I was pleasantly shocked Scorpio got the win. It’s probably transitional, but that’s okay. But overall, I’m happy for the guy. Fantastic show tonight!

I mean... imagine the meeting backstage when they were setting this up. Who's idea do you think it was for the contract to be signed on Tay's ass??
(My vote is Ethan Page's, btw.)

Yeah dude the only place where peoples' dialogue actually means the things it means without the use of someone else coming in to summarize it for us is when Jean-Luc Godard is directing. In no accessible media does pure dialogue without repetition convey anything. Great way to back up your argument with the idea you should be taken seriously. The "pure dialogue" was burying Rosa just like it was during the contract signing. I guess we just don’t know what exactly you’re advocating for. Britt going “ohhhhh my god, no!!!!! A CAGE match? Nooooo! Now I won’t be able to cheat to win, oh god no!!!! Rosa is so tough and now I have to face her without interference, oh god this is the end of my title reign, please help, how could you book this Tony?!?!?“ would not only be wildly out of character, it would make no sense even in the wild world of kayfabe. Even if Britt is scared, why would she show it? MJF showed fear in the moment because CM Punk had shaken him to his core and goaded him into taking a dangerous match he didn’t really want, and the feud went to a deeply personal level, but he pretty quickly composed himself and went back to being nonplussed the next week. I just don’t get the comparison, I guess.

You sell a cage match with a sneaky cheating heel by making it 100% crystal clear that she ABSOLUTELY DOES NOT WANT TO GET INTO THAT CAGE. Someone here or in the other thread said they probably should have built to the cage match at Revolution--that's a strong point. It would have given us some weeks of Baker trying to weasel her way out of the stip or trying to get an "injunction" like an old-school wrestling manager. That they didn't go that way is fine by itself, but this wasn't really the way to go about it.

Honestly, MJF's response gets to the core of my complaint: WHATEVER Baker's "proper" response should have been, a feud doesn't work without DEVELOPMENT and ADVANCEMENT. MJF steals a win from Punk in Punk's hometown. Punk strikes back with a terrifying challenge. MJF is so shook that he can't respond for once. Then he comes out and swerves us with his promo the following week. Then he swerves us again, having realized he needs to go to depths he's never gone to before. Then Wardlow screws up his best-laid plans and costs him. Masterful booking that was always going somewhere.
Baker, meanwhile, was an arrogant cheating b*tch 3 weeks ago, was an arrogant cheating b*tch at the PPV just like she's been for her last 10 title defenses, and was an arrogant cheating b*tch tonight. It feels like NOTHING has progressed in this feud. Rosa beat Baker a year ago. Baker downplays it because it was unsanctioned. Baker cheats. Baker buries Rosa because her one win was unsanctioned. Baker gets put in a cage and responds by...burying Rosa and talking about how her win didn't count because it was unsanctioned.
This is a weird comparison that just struck me, but this is like the 1990 Rude-Warrior title program with the heel-babyface roles reversed. The entire premise is built on, "I beat you a year ago" and then nothing else, with the two characters operating in different worlds.

That they didn't go that way is fine by itself, but this wasn't really the way to go about it. Yes, I think he beat Punk to a bloody pulp and got the mental upper hand on him, then went back to feigning that he wasn’t afraid of the match. I’m fairly certain that’s exactly what happened. Britt Baker is, like, a high school bully-type character. The leader of a clique. The type of person who acts like she’s above it all and that everything is going to go her way no matter what. She wouldn’t outwardly react with fear to a cage match, because doing so would be an admission that Rosa’s probably better than her. But, come next week, she’s going to get in the cage, realize she genuinely does not have the upper hand for the first time in her reign, Show frustration and fear, and then have her comeuppance by losing to Rosa and putting a bow on what I am more than willing to admit was a clunky, sloppy, story that I haven’t especially enjoyed. You clearly have a strong affinity for the way things were booked in, like, 1980s Mid South. Which is fine, a lot of those tropes became tropes for a reason. But I don’t think they need to be applied in every single case with every single character.

I didn't get that sense out of MJF at ALL, during or before the match. The whole point of him becoming "the Devil himself" was that he knew he was in trouble and would have to plumb new depths even by his low standards to get out of it. We got a different MJF--we got the same ol' Baker tonight. Again, ANYTHING different would have been welcomed. Hell, have Baker and her goons run out and beat Rosa down and declare that she wasn't going to make it to San Antonio. That would preserve her sacred "asshole heel" persona while at least advancing her character ever so slightly. I'll give Baker this: at least she didn't cut a heel promo and then wrap it up with her singalong catchphrase. I hate it when that happens, whether it's her or Cole--and I honestly want Jericho to get new music now that he's newly heel again with a new group, just so fans actually boo him.

I think MJF’s devil reference was to show CM Punk that he was in his head, and had taken the upper hand by referencing CM Punk’s own promo from 20 years ago, when Punk was as young and ruthless as MJF is now. But, yeah, I mean, I agree MJF is an incredible heel. Possibly the standard bearer in modern wrestling. I also agree that Britt is beyond stale, and a pretty wooden and boring character. The only thing that I disagree with is that it would make sense for Britt’s character to openly react to getting booked in a cage match.

I mean, if that's "her character" to not react in that way, then her character sucks. If she doesn't care, why should I?

Theoretically, because you want to see Rosa knock her down about 10 pegs and prove that she should have been scared. But, the story’s not landing with you. That’s cool, it hasn’t really landed with you. It honestly hasn’t landed with me either. I’m glad next week should be the end of it. EDIT: I didn’t see what was going on in the other thread. This’ll be my last post on this.

I gave that Britt promo a hard skip. --- That contract signing was a gas. --- I'm sure Sammy and Tay will end up like that later too. I would keep Sammy face down myself.

Not too fussed about Jeff Hardy but his style will fit in well in AEW. Never been a fan of Matt TBH and this probably means more of him on tv.
The Regal promo was excellent. I can see these being tag champs by the end of the year and a feud with FTR would be excellent. Will Tully leave now or go back to managing Spears?
Rosa was always winning that (plenty matches in AEW seem too obvious before they start) but Sky winning surprised me. Sammy needs to go to selling classes though before he's in a championship program again.
Fast forwarded Hangman as Dante Martin does nothing for me and again it was obvious.
