"Til that day... When all... are one." *Optimus Prime dies.* It used to.choke me up as a kid, but as an adult its so overdramatic. And aside from Perceptor, and Hot Rod being responsible for his condition 10 minutes ago, we never even saw him interact with any of the people at his bedside while he dies. Also, him turning gray is f***ing weird. It never before or after happened to another Transformer that died, even in that same movie.

Yeah but he was a pile of ashes that was about to fall apart.

Didn't Starscream slowly and horribly turn grey and then literally drift away as ashes after Galvatron blasted him?

There were a few Rugrats episodes that got to me as a kid - the main ones were the one where Chuckie's pet bug dies, and the one where Spike runs away. I always had to hold back tears whenever I'd see a flyer for a missing pet, thinking about how some poor family couldn't find their dog or cat. The Spike episode reminded me of that, of an animal scared and lost that may never find their way home. The one with Chuckie's pet bug dying was when I began realizing that I'd have to one day say goodbye to my childhood cat. Luckily, that day would come so much later in my life than I ever could have imagined. He lived to be 21-years-old, and while it was every bit of the hardest day of my life that I imagined it'd be, I felt grateful to have spent 19 of my then 23 years with him by my side. I think it's a healthy thing to explain to kids so long as you handle it carefully in a context that kids can understand. It made me a little more appreciative of things.

The first 10 or so minutes of "Up". I always called that section like soul destroyingly sad... and it is a masterclass in storytelling to get you THAT invested in characters we barely know so quickly. Granted when I First saw that my Grandmother was in the hospital so it's impact was that much more painful >_>

I know it's more a family show, but...

I remember when I was really young watching the movie all dogs go to heaven and i found it really upsetting at the end and found it again recently(nearly thirty years later) and it was still hard to watch. I think this movie was made in Ireland if I’m remembering correctly which I found cool being Irish myself.
And the land before time. It has a happy ending but it was like a dinosaur version of bambi(that’s probably sacrilege) but that’s what it was like for me. I do feel glad that I grew up in the 1990s when Disney and animation in general found it’s sweet spot again.

I always thought it was because his soul/spirit was absorbed into the matrix of leadership, well until he's rebooted later in the series (but that could have been because I'd seen something to that effect in the comics.)

That makes sense actually. I'm gonna roll (out) with that explanation from now on.

Yup, the movie was made in the Sullivan Bluth Studios after the Bluth Group set up a studio here to take advantage of tax breaks we had to encourage filmmakers to set up shop here. It really was a great thing for the arts here as even though the studio's long closed but its had a lasting impact in that the studio had helped set up animation courses in third level institutes and there's now a prominent enough animation industry in Ireland which can be traced back to the influence of Sullivan Bluth.
