They filmed the bridge explosion right down the street from my middle school and somehow Arnold visited the schools 30 minutes away but just sent us an autographed photo even though we were one minute away.

I felt Collateral Damage to be the end of Arnie's era. Prior to that, up until End of Days (which I love), the style of his movies was both quintessential 80s/90s and star vehicles. When times changed, the movies changed and Arnold became a relic on camera. True Lies may be part of a trend that foresaw the future, like Last Action Hero. I honestly feel like T3 get's that honor. That one also feels like the last of it's kind in a way. It already existed in a post Bourne world of action movies. I had to look it up again, because I wasn't sure. T3 got released a year after Collateral Damage, so I get the sentiment. I remember watching T3 with my father, we both agreed it was entertaining, but something was off, maybe not over the top enough. While I feel CD was a clear-cut shift, T3 was somewhat of a hybrid that could serve as an even bigger indicator that Arnie's era of action cinema was over. Anyway, sad times.

I think that's Beverly D'Angelo of Vacation movies in there. True Lies has excellent setpieces that hold up pretty well. It'll be hard to replicate that for TV.

If Arnold only did T2, True Lies and Commando I’d still think he’s great

"They call him the Sand Spider"
"Why?"
"Probably because it sounds scary"

I started(!) rewatching True Lies last week and realized/learned two things: 1. It's a remake of a French movie called La Totale! by Claude Zidi. Has anybody seen that? Actually I'm quite familiar with Zidi's filmography, but apparently not that familiar. 2. The first half of True Lies is outstanding, some of the most fun one can have with a '90s movie. Then the second half begins and it all falls apart. It totally abandons it's main plot to focus on Arnold's marriage, before tying both plots together again until they're meaningless. What a waste of a great half movie.

The goofball from Shameless taking on Arnold's role is some bold casting.

It's weird. I honestly don't remember most of the action and remember more about the story and the more memorable scenes. Loved the film though.

The goofball from Shameless taking on Arnold's role is some bold casting. Which goofball? Actor who plays Kevin. They're both big guys, but to my mind that's where the similarities end.
