I'll admit I did have a kind of fondness to the Cormoran Strike series, for whatever reason, but yeah Harry Potter itself was seemingly a stroke of good luck because I tried a couple of times to give Fantastic Beasts a try and it almost always ended up with me dozing at some point-- whether it be the movies or reading the script books. Just such a lifeless, dry thing.

In addition to the other aspects people have pointed out, such as JK just being a horrid bigot, I think it also wouldn't add much to have a story set in more modern times because of hos fiercely conservative and traditionalist her wizard society is. Technology is aggressively scorned by wizards, so unless that has changed, and they've have a permissive view of cellphones, the internet, etc, then there's unlikely to be any meaningful change in wizarding life.
They also established that Harry, as well as most of the cast, seem really indifferent towards bigotry in wizard life that doesn't directly affect them or their immediate loved ones, so we really don't have much reason to think anyone we've heard of or any meaningful contact with care all that much about progressive reform, so we probably wouldn't see any improved treatment of non-human magical creatures like goblins, centaurs, etc, or "mudbloods".
Hell, given the newest game apparently being about dealing with uppity goblins who don't know their place, I have my doubts we as the readers/viewers are even supposed to think of it as any great injustice.
