As someone born in 92 and earliest memories probably 96 or 97 (if I started watching wrestling then Hogan would of been a heel lol). What was life like back then? How was media, TV, cable and all? I know they had computers but wtf were they used for lol

I feel like my early 90s were pretty much a late 80s childhood. Our dad brought home a Commodore 64 and our mom warned us not to pick up mushrooms in the surrounding forest because of radiation from Chernobyl.

Same curiosity. Was born in ‘88 (dont ecIII) and some of my earliest memories are taking in the aesthetics and culture of the 80s.

The cartoons were epic and manly. Masters of the universe, Thundercats, Transformers. And they all had kick ass theme tunes.

Sprayed big hair, Cold War fears, Whiteyball in St. Louis, an underrated decade musically for Freddie Mercury and Queen, lots and lots of pastel/neon colors.

A gas shortage and a flock of seagulls, that's about it.

Cocaine , Neon fueled , big hair and awesome.
Accompanied a worthless war on drugs...I am sure a fried egg put an end to that.

It was a great decade. The 90s were better, but I will always have nostalgia for the 80s!

It was a terrible time, everything was in black and white. There was a massive demon invasion and the only way we could tell who was human and who wasn't was by taking photos of each other... red eye in any photographs was the only way to tell who wasn't possessed it was horrible waiting 2-3 weeks to find out. Hair metal bands freely roamed the earth wailing at anyone who would listen. Dinosaurs had not yet been confined to parks so you had to dodge daily Utah raptor & T-Rex attacks while hoping a giant sauropod didnt step on you or eat your entire garden. Aliens invaded earth but wiped all memory of it from humanity but left annoying clues as to their time on earth such as England. There was less tv channels so you got stuck with nothing to watch if someone else wanted to watch the tv. Mullets was the go to hairstyle for large parts of earth and those who didnt partake in said haircut were mocked and shunned by society. The world ended no less than four times, no one has figured out how or why it came back each time. A fresh faced Hulk Hogan ruled the wrestling world with an iron grip and every single promotion had to run it's booking by him first so it didn't over shadow his fame and fortune. oh and there was a flock of seagulls. {Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}it was more or less the same as now but with less technology, terrible fashion, some decent movies & tv shows & music.

The 80's were great for pop culture and awful for just about everything else.

Old Satellite TV was so fascinating. Had a buddy with ultra rich parents and we'd get on the dish (an actual big ass satellite dish that would actually move around) and we'd explore for channels. You could find the craziest shit from all over the place.
Glass bottled local sodapop that used sugar was commonplace (at least in my neck of the woods in Iowa). It's kinda interesting how it went away for 30 years and now it's all coming back as "craft soda". Back then it was just common soda.
If you were of a certain age you watched Challenger blow up LIVE on TV in school (there was this big national push to show it to kids because a teacher was on the shuttle). It was the "where were you when you heard JFK was shot" of a generation. Similar to 9/11 now.
The 84 Bears were basically celebrity gods for a short snippet of time. They were EVERYWHERE on TV and in print.

Thanks to Larry Bird and Magic Johnson, Basketball went from the fourth ranked sport to top of the world due to a resurgence of popularity and The Lakers and Celtics rivalry became renewed, even moreso when Michael Jordan was drafted by The Bulls.
Cartoons started improving as well due to more effort and budget put into them than just Hanna Barbera slapping characters onto a looping background

Synth Pop and New Wave music were awesome! The clothing and hairstyles were pretty great too.

John Hughes 80s filmography is a nice complete summary in the briefest of ways of the 80s.

Better.
The 80s were better. The 90s were even better than that.
Frankly, everything on the American side of things was better until September 2001. It has been all downhill since then, and I don't think we're going to recover. I'm not sure America will exist in 20-30 years, at least not in any way that we know now.

No one knew what rap was, but they knew it was fascinating. Like this: I loved the shit out of Zoobiliee Zoo. MAGIC AND WONDER ARE WAAAAAITING FOR YOOOOOOOOU I'm in a little bit of a cool position in that I was born in '82, so my formative years were '80s-tastic and filled with awesome stuff; from the latter half of second grade on was the '90s, which was its own set of awesome. The first few years still felt '80s-ish (the first few of any decade really just feel like the one before it), and by the end - the first half of my senior year of high school - it felt completely and totally different. I loved growing up when I did. When I think of the time, I think colorful and varied and fun. Had its own pizazz and uniqueness that I'm happy I got to experience.
