1. Now You See Me
Reasoning: This is a simple but absolute fun mystery. Pieces that belong, top tier actors. It's practical viewing

2. Booksmart
(I know this movie did indeed get a good amount of praise, but I want to take it further by suggesting that it should be one of those movies that's always remembered fondly. Sort of like all those teen-centric 80s movies (Fast Times At Ridgemont High, The Breakfast Club, Pretty In Pink, etc.) Booksmart was like a perfect snapshot of the late-2010s teenage American.)

3. Nobody
I don't know how financially successful it was, but I feel like it got overlooked between all the superhero movies and coming out during the pandemic.

6. You Are Not My Mother - An Irish psychological horror movie (which is a rarity in itself). Really strong performances, good atmosphere building and interesting to see a horror draw on lore from a culture not dipped into all that much. I was really impressed by this, even moreso when I found out it was the director's debut.

7: Copshop: A super fun action thriller with Alexis Louder, Gerard Butler and Frank Grillo from last year that has shades of Assault on Precinct 13, except way more tongue-in-cheek and with more jokes.

8. Fire City: End of Days - Pretty good little low budget horror/fantasy noir type movie from 2015 with some great make up effects and characters.

Pride (2014) A British comedy set in the mid-80s based on the true life unlikely alliance between the striking Coal Miners and some Lesbian and Gay activists from London. It’s one of those “on paper they seem as far apart as you can get but in reality, they are both fighting for the same cause” stories but it’s not twee or saccharine. It’s got a great cast including Imelda Staunton, Paddy Considine, Bill Nighy, Dominic West and George MacKay. It’s yet another uplifting comedy about working class Brits being downtrodden that we get right quite often (Brassed Off, Made in Dagenham, The Full Monty, Billy Elliot to name a few) yet it’s not heavy-handed on the propaganda front. It’s hilarious, has an awesome 80s soundtrack and if you’re not crying at the end (or on many other occasions throughout), you have no soul!

10. The Lost Skeleton of Cadavera (2001)
A love letter to and classy spoof of the old black and white monster movies of ages past. It's filmed in "Skeletorama" and "Spookyvision" to boot! With a tagline like "You'll be sterilized with fear", you can't help but want to see it.

11. Some Guy Who Kills People (2012) - not what I was expecting going in, Kevin Corrigan is great in a rare chance at a lead role

12. Z (2019)
Surprisingly effective Canadian horror movie about a woman dealing with her son developing an imaginary friend who seems to have bad intentions. Goes some places you wouldn't expect and doesn't overdo it on the jump scares or special effects. Well worth the 80 or so minutes.

13. The Greasy Strangler (2016)
A completely batshit insane movie involving grease, disco, a large prosthetic dong, over-the-top cartoon style kills, wacky music and lots of "bullshit artist". A very quirky comedy horror that you don't so much watch as you strap yourself in and experience the camp.

14 Coherence (2013)
A low budget but brilliantly acted Twighlight Zone story that is best you go into knowing as little as possible. Story is set in a middle class American suburb were 4 couples are having a dinner party when a comet flies over...

15. He Never Died (2015)
Dark comedy starring Henry Rollins as a being who's so old he doesn't even remember how long he's been around, and while he's kind of over being alive some people aren't over trying to kill him, and then he learns he might have offspring...
Followed by an inferior sequel that's also on Amazon, but the original is well worth checking out.

16. Wristcutters: A Love Story
Definitely not a current movie but rewatched it recently and really feel like more people need to watch it
