I remember the promo Big E cut when the upbeat choir gimmick was getting booed where he said (paraphrasing) "the more you boo us the louder we'll clap" and from his tone and expression it was clear the positivity was an act and the New Day were in fact seething with rage over how they had been treated. It was really well done.

Their heel run was them going so overboard on their Babyface preacher act that crowds started booing them. They knew it would work, while Vince thought the Babyface preacher gimmick was money. They were over the top babyfaces to the point it made them heels. This militant New Day was around for a week or two if I remember correctly. The timing of like the BLM protests and stuff pretty much nixed the idea of the Srs militant New Day.. My favorite recollection of Heel New Day was Xavier outside the ring going... "WHY ARE YOU BOOING?! WE'RE WINNING! " Bingo. The incident in Ferguson and the aftermath happened right around the time they joined up. The office saw potential for a shitstorm, which is why they disappeared for a bit and had to re-debut with the gimmick closer to what we know now.

Their Heel Turn is what saved them in the end.
I remember one year at the Royal Rumble they had serious "Go Away" heat.
12 months later at the next Royal Rumble they were super over.
Amazing what a slight change of character can do.

New Day's progression from hated faces to over heels to beloved babyfaces had a wild trip, and one of the biggest bridge pieces was them going in as massive goofballs as heels. Not only with stuff like Real Mega Dad Of the Year, but in some absolutely hilarious Youtube promos, one of which had them go on for like twenty minutes of pure chaos. Once they started finding a chance to bleed personality in, it got over, and it seems they got a lot of leeway in time to begin bringing their humour and their own material into promos, and shockingly, they got over and became one of the best acts in the company with a years-long, slam dunk HOF run. Weird how that worked.

My strongest memory of that early time is Big E coming out at the 2015 Rumble, to just an absolute Conway Pop.

I know they were heels. I remember them being good heels. I remember really liking them as heels. Yet, the only memories I have of them as heels are Kofi's reaction to them winning the Tag Titles at SummerSlam 2015, and the terrible version of Twin Magic. Help! That's a lot more than zero recollection.

Remember there was newz that Vince was so sure original new day was going to be so over as faces that he cried when they were so unover? That was out of the New Day's mouths, as I recall. That they went into a meeting with him, told him they were so confident in themselves as a trio that they'd take any gimmick he gave them, no argument, as long as it wasn't "intense angry black men" or "dancing goofball black men." And that their reaction to "You're going to be preachers" was to attempt to telepathically beam to one another, "Is he messing with us, because if we'd had a third thing to not do, that would have been it."

It was Goldust, because I remember the camera framing showing Bryan sitting on the floor with Goldust’s tron that starts with “Shattered Dreams” in the background. The company that can’t seem plan out a show until it’s already on the air making the explicit note to eliminate Bryan at this specific time on one specific side of the ring, having him and the cameraman in this specific position and to have Goldust enter at this specific number in the match, just for one two-second camera shot to prove how much they hate you (specifically YOU) for supporting Bryan. ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) Basically, it was a coincidence.

I remember them rocking out to Seth's theme during the main event of RAW one week it was hilarious.
Is this also when they said for a fee they would come to people's houses and fight their kids? They might have been faces then actually lol.

I believe the “Big E Chompin’ Popcorn” gif is from their heel run, is it not?

I remember they did a funky dance that Wade Barrett joined in on. That turned into one of my favorite MS Paint recreations.

I thought it was funny how they were perfectly cool with Barrett being a dorky guy on their team but wanted nothing to do with Sheamus. Sheamus and Barrett both came out with them to the New Day theme (which I enjoyed as it reminded me of the old Survivor Series where all the guys on a team would come out to one theme instead of everyone coming out to separate entrances which is how it's been since 1999) and they did a pre match promo on the ramp where I think Sheamus said "LET"S GET JIGGY WITH IT!" and all the New Day just looked at him in disgust. Then later they walked out on him after he got into a tiff with Big E.

Am I the only one that remembers they formed by Woods as a super-SRS deal that were sick of being held down, disappeared for 4 months and came back as the bad New Day that we're only now ready to talk about?

Yeah, Vince thought this was going to be over big and they all was like hell no it isn’t. Once it was very clear it wasn’t working, Xavier told Vince to make them heel and he thought no one would boo Kofi. Xavier told Vince if I can’t get the audience to boo Kofi in a month you can fire me

The timing of like the BLM protests and stuff pretty much nixed the idea of the Srs militant New Day.. My favorite recollection of Heel New Day was Xavier outside the ring going... "WHY ARE YOU BOOING?! WE'RE WINNING! " I think Xavier was probably the MVP of heel New Day even though it seemed like he was wrestling very little during that period and seemed to be almost kind of a manager for the other two. It seemed like he was usually the one making me laugh the most (although Big E. definitely had his moments too like "Randy only not does Seth Rollins have your number but he has it on speed dial") Another gem of Xavier I remember is him grabbing a headlock or a reverse chinlock on Roman Reigns and shouting "I'M GOING TO BEAT ROMAN REIGNS!". He sound so confident too when saying it. I've thought for a while that Woods is someone they should have had on an inside track for a major future creative role, as either an assistant to or successor for someone like HHH. It definitely seems like he guided them through that faces as heels who get over to be faces minefield, and someone who can pretty expertly navigate "take Vince's bad idea, do it, but do it in a way that's actually good instead without making him mad" is what they desperately need, plus him being genuinely funny as a performer and someone who understands the psychology of their audience. Someone like that who actually understands young people (which Vince, Hunter and Vince's yes men clearly don't) and is pretty much beloved by the locker room is the kind of person they should have been behind way more and investing in all along.
