I know, I know; I hate false dichotomies, as well. But if you had to choose.
Would you,
a) Watch a 1 one hour TV show of only promos and character progression, motivations, storyline developments, and things of that nature, and no actual in-ring action, or,
b) A 1 hour TV show of nothing but five star matches? The best kinds of matches you can possibly fit in a card for one hour. But they would have no build and no story to them.
No right or wrong answers here. I'm just curious. Me, personally, would pick A for sure. I think this current era of wrestling is very oversaturated with great wrestling, but great stories and interesting characters are fewer and farther between. Not saying preferring the in-ring is wrong. Different strokes, different folks.
But, personally, I tend to just have wrestling shows on in the background these days, I listen to the matches like radio shows, and then I pay attention to the TV if interesting characters interact in a promo. Because it's the story and soap opera that I'm interested in.
How about you? I know some people fast forward through the promos.

It'd depend on my mood, I think, but I'm leaning towards the matches. I am curious if this would be an archive kind of thing, or if you're suggesting that this would be all-new stuff.
I'd love to see a bunch of big matches I never saw live. As much as I like angles and promos and think they are absolutely vital, wrestling's the word on the marquee for a reason.

Matches. Just promos is no longer wrestling.
It's entirely possible to have interesting characters tell a good story in a one off match with no prior context. I've watched a lot more Japanese wrestling in recent times and I've gained more appreciation for how skilled some are at that.
However if it's just two generic guys in black trunks exchanging holds with no discernible character I'd be bored in no time. There's also a lot of Japanese wrestling that's basically that and it doesn't hold my attention.
I need characters but don't think promos are the only way to get them. I like promos it's just I think they're often too frequent and too long.

I would likely go for 'A'. As a kid watching Smackdown each week I was more invested in the angles and characters more than the matches themselves. So a weekly, character driven show building to a monthly PPV would be pretty cool. As long as there were actual characters and gimmicks. Not just 'good wrestler wants to prove he is better than other good wrestler'.

Promos, by a large margin.
I can enjoy a good match, but if the storyline isn't there, I can't really enjoy it. I'd fast forward matches when I used to tape TNA/Raw/Smackdown.

Neither, but matches if I had to choose.
I don't watch wrestling that much anymore, but when I do it's because I have an itch that can only be scratched by watching some wrestling matches.
5 star matches are overrated though.

Given the choice, easily B. You can't tell a match through a promo, but a skilled worker can tell a story in a match, and there might not be a story going in, but you'd inherently have some kind of a structure and a story in the actual work itself. A show of all promos just isn't wrestling, it's a TV show of people who yell at each other

For me, watching promos without matches would be like eating a cone full of sprinkles without any ice cream.

All depends.
Could I watch a traditional wrestling show without the wrestling? Hell the gawd damn no because the stories and characters already suck with it lol so I cannot imagine trying to sit through one without the matches.
Now on the other hand there is just ONE wrestling show that seems unanimous in the mind that if you cut out the wrestling it would still be a banger of the show because of how it is structered like an actual show with strong stories and characters and it is LU.
You gimme a LU style show , presentation even without the wrestling that would become priority watching for me atleast.

A. I’m a promos/characters/storyline kind of guy.
It’s like asking me “would you rather watch an hour of a romantic soap opera that would lead to sex or or an hour of straight porn with no story?”. Yes, I’m weird.

If I am wanting to watch wrestling, then I want to see matches. If I didn't want to watch wrestling, I'll find a sitcom.

Neither. A good wrestling show needs to have both. Sorry.
