It may have to do with the fact that we fans don't want to see him die in the middle of the ring. Nobody wants to see that. Ric right now is doing a half hour straight on the row machine, he’s training with Lethal doing one on one matches, on top of whatever other training methods he’s doing. Working a tag match is not the most dangerous thing he’s partaking in for his heart condition. He strains it every day. I think personally this is very important for Ric to be at ease with the rest of his life. He can prove to himself that he was able to come back after staring death in the face. Plus, he never was able to end his career on his terms. Now he can. Conrad Thompson's got some carny tendencies and he puts far too many ads in his podcasts but he's married to - and presumably loves - this guy's daughter. Ric's whole family is going to be there. His son-in-law is going to be in the ring with him. I think that video they posted is super hokey, but if they genuinely thought there was a real chance they'd f***ing kill this guy in front of his family, this wouldn't happen. Then take a look at it from a business perspective - if Ric straight up dies in the ring, Conrad's podcast empire would be f***ed, the mortgage business would be f***ed and he'd likely be blackballed from wrestling entirely. That's not to mention that Conrad could open himself up to legal action from fans claiming to be traumatized from seeing this guy collapse in the ring or something. There's a risk/reward to this and I have to believe that while yes, there's a risk to this whole thing happening, it's more likely that this is going to be a 15-minute match where 10 minutes is Jay/Jeff/Andrade working around Ric and Ric getting a few minutes of chops and a Figure Four. I think they're milking it for all it's worth and some of the merch and promotion is over the top, but like, they're not going to kill this guy in the ring. They're just not.

Flair is so dedicated to this he’s filming BET original movies to hype it up.
When he gets punched in the gut. “OOOHHHMYGAWDthatswhereihadmahsurgery”

Is this the first match between currently employed WWE and AEW workers?

When he gets punched in the gut. “OOOHHHMYGAWDthatswhereihadmahsurgery” The random "f*** off, Jarrett!" and subsequent Double J heel turn reminded me of the "Let Them Eat Goo" South Park episode where Cartman says "f*** you, Wendy!" after surviving a heart attack.

While I personally don't agree with Flair getting back in the ring at this point in his life, he has obviously been putting in the work to make this event a success. As far as his health issues, he's probably had longer training sessions getting ready for the match than the match will actually be. No one in the ring wants to see Flair injured, or god forbid dead. They will be protecting him and a decent 10 minute match after 10 minutes of entrances should be easy enough to accomplish. I fully expect the smoke and mirrors throughout this match. Dazzling entrances, guitar shots, blood, a hot tag comeback, and double figure fours to end the match. Simple enough.
This is also not the first time a match like this has happened. A lot of old school wrestlers have had matches late in life. Hell Lou Thez was 74 years old during his last match, a singles match at that. I get why this isn't everyone's cup of tea due to Flair's personal life and issues but I say go for it Flair. The videos and promos I've seen so far for this match have me hook line and sinker. Hell, this has made me be more of a fan of Jarrett again after seeing his goofy appearances in WWE in that gaudy "Aint I great" outfit.

It was really weird, even tho Jarrett and Lethal instigated the fight they still kinda came off as the faces. Flair told Lethal he couldn't have a spot on the retirement card because he was a curtain jerker, and blatantly was a douche to Double J when he tried to protect him from Lethal's attack. There wer no real heroes in the video, other then maybe Crockett who did seem like he was pure face

This week's Jarrett podcast is definitely an interesting listen even if it's in kayfabe. It's probably a little cathartic for Jeff though getting to go over 40 years of tension with Ric going back to him coming in to Memphis.
Conrad: Well we'll see if we get the match in the ring. It's not like you never walked out of that building before.
Jeff: Boy you had that teed up. Nice one.
Conrad: That's the ultimate photo-op, you and Brian James sneaking out the backdoor like the f***ing coward you are.
Jeff: Oh come on, Conrad. Don't bring Brian into this. You don't want to bring him into it. I'm telling you, you don't.
Conrad: Okay. Cause you know what? You brought him into it the first time. He's a well-meaning dude who looks up to you and he needs better role models in his life. I'll just say that.

I hate when wrestling podcasts do kayfabe shit.
Remember when Bray Wyatt hacked into the Talk is Jericho podcast zone?

I'm about 90% certain Flair will end up worked into a shoot because of Jarrett's comments to try and build some heat and interest.

You've never lived until you've seen Jeff Jarrett vs. Road Dogg go like 15-20 minutes with multiple crowd brawls because this shit is so important

They just added Jonathan Gresham vs. Nick Wayne vs. Alan Angels vs. Konosuke Takeshita in a four way.
I know people feel weird about the Flair match but this legit looks like the independent show of the year.

The show itself looks insane in the combinations and matches which, as much as I hate to say it, makes the Flair match look bigger.

Also decided to change the title since, well, it’s more about the show at this point than the earlier training sessions.

Being blunt about it, Ric’s had a million and one chances to end things on his term and there’s kind of a big ol reason dude got blacklisted last year that I guess folks just don’t care all that much no more?
He’s a grown man, he can do what he wants, and this actually seems like a fun show but off rip, f*** Ric Flair.
