Despite interest from WWE, FTR won’t be leaving AEW any time soon. WWE reportedly has interest in bringing back FTR, who are the current AAA World Tag Team Champions & ROH World Tag Team Champions. It was noted that FTR’s AEW contracts are set to expire this summer, but AEW will likely retain the option year on those contracts. In an update, Fightful Select issued an update to their original report and noted that AEW confirmed how FTR still has more than one year left on their current contracts. They will remain under contract to AEW for at least the year-plus period. www.wrestlinginc.com/news/2022/04/backstage-update-on-ftrs-aew-contracts/

Why? What has changed for WWE that they would be interested in 2 wrestlers that dont fit their mold and have no interest in being square pegs?

Why? What has changed for WWE that they would be interested in 2 wrestlers that dont fit their mold and have no interest in being square pegs? They've got back to, and maybe even surpassed their hype level from their NXT run, they got so popular they forced a face turn, the last team I'd expect that from. Now, what has changed in WWE that would make them want to go back? Could be all talk, but they seem to put professional pride, especially when it comes to tag team wrestling overall, above money. I'm not sure being filmed shaving each others' shoulders for lols and being presented with jester costumes is something that's quickly forgotten.

Yeah, I'm just gonna go ahead and guess that FTR would probably pull a Chaz and wipe their ass with that contract.

I think Cody's sphere of influence could be a big factor here.
But they should definitely stay where they're at tbh. Guys like Cody or Mox could come back and it would be different as WWE will change how they book tops guys for them but tag team wrestling in WWE is only going to be important when you have your odd couple tag-team/1-2 iconic actually tag teams/and filler tag teams(which honestly is my preference).
FTR isn't changing that. But if WWE going to give you a bag, screw all that other stuff. get that money.

I mean, WWE is probably gonna try and throw money at any top AEW act, even if they end up not using then.

It can mean a lot of shit, you dont wanna burn bridges as things can change. But FTR is currently on a run of a lifetime, I doubt they have any current interest. There is always money but FTR seem to take big pride in the art of wrestling.

I swear to God
If you combined every Drake song ever written into one you'd still have a song that was about 5% as thirsty for their exes as WWE is

To add to this story AEW execs think that Bret Hart is signed to some kind of WWE deal that won't let him work AEW shows, that's why Bret is managing FTR at an indy show coming up.

Meltzer said that report is incorrect and FTR has over a year, plus the extra option year, too. There was a big chat about it in the AEW part of the board a few days ago.

Yeah this is old news and debunked, but even then entertaining the notion, there's no way they're going back any time soon
A team that lives and breathes tag team wrestling and what it stands for, going back to a tag division that's possibly about to be monopolized by the Usos and keeps breaking up any teams they can like it's some sort of barely disguised fetish? Yeah I think they'll pass, the tag scene is way worse than when they even left WWE, and that's impressive...

Nothing makes you more valuable to the WWE than having left by choice.

"If the circumstances are right" is doing so much lifting there, goddamn. Vince will never take these men seriously. The best tag team wrestling got in WWE the past decade was Usos/The Bar/New Day all fighting each other and as good as the matches were it was pretty blatant filler. By the time FTR showed up it was in rougher shape and they started doing "HA HA THEY'RE GAY" material with them before the clown concept art. Don't take anything off the table, but I imagine it's a real steep consideration, and unlike Cody where Vince has no inherent problem making a singles star--though you wouldn't know it from the past decade--he will never let tag team wrestling be a serious thing.

For me: "If the circumstances are right" = not now, but let's see who runs the WWE in 5 years time. Its as impossible to say what the WWE will be like after the almighty power struggle that will kick off in the near future, as to predict when it will happen. For all I know, the Papa H "We're Really Sorry about Johnny Ace and Nick Khan, it was all their fault, honest" world tour turns out a massive PR success.

I'm sure if Triple H gets control of the company it would be a massively different conversation for FTR. They would trust him and he'd be making hard moves to get back his boys and probably a fair few WWE washouts he pushed hard in the black and gold days. I just don't know how realistic that looks in the current climate.
