In the early days of the NWO, were Hall and Nash ever acknowledged as being former WCW wrestlers? I mean, neither achieved much there during their initial runs, but they were there and interacted with some of the people (most notably Sting and Page) they'd face during the NWO run.

When they were recruiting, Page brought up that he used to be the manager and tag partner of them

In the early days, I don't believe so. They wanted us to see Diesel and Razor Ramon.

They were so low on the card previously, they didn't reference it all when they came in from what I can remember.

Didn’t Bischoff recently claim that it wasn’t meant to be Diesel and Razor but Vinnie Vegas and the Diamond Stud coming back for revenge? Or was that bullshit I read somewhere?

He tried to spin that on his podcast that Hall/Nash came back for revenge but it is never brought up at all during the NWO angle that they were Diamond Studd/Vinnie Vegas.

How foolish would it have been if that's how they introduced them? Everything about Hall's debut suggested he was Razor Ramon, and the WWF was kayfabe shooting on WCW. From Hall coming through the audience to the ring, his street clothes and him calling out "Nacho Man," felt unscripted and real. If he had come out and Zbyszko or Schiavone shouted, "That's Diamond Studd! What's he doing here?" the whole angle would not have been as impactful or iconic.

I remembered that it was never actually a thing, but I wasn’t sure if the spin actually happened.

He probably claimed the AOL/Time Warner merger is the reason Vinnie Vegas and the Diamond Studd couldn’t come back.

This sounds like it would’ve been Bischoff’s defense in court when WWF tried to sue them over trademark infringement since it was heavily implied where they had just come from.

I think it was only really brought up vaguely when they were around DDP

In the early days, I don't believe so. They wanted us to see Diesel and Razor Ramon. It took to maybe late 1997 for those gimmicks to completely disappear from them both. But 1996, it was definitely a Razor and Diesel feel.
