I loathe the guy (as a wrestler), but 2003-2004 was his zenith.
After that it was copy and paste guy who just changed the color of his shirt, and cut the same promo's be it "you beat me last night, but you haven't beaten me 500 times yet" or "RAH RAH BLAH BLAH BLAH RAH RAH!"

US Open Challenge Cena circa 2015 all the way until the end of 2016 when he was facing Styles and Ambrose. That veteran working with the new guys. He had a dope character, showed new moves, put on classics, just dope.
2015-2016 was gold for Cena.

He was unbearable for most of it. Early on he was at least fresh.

2004, when he became Big Match John.
And those pictures are hugely misleading. The number of versions of John Cena can be counted on the fingers of one hand.

2003 & 2004 was my boi. And I didn’t mind angles surrounding him in 2010 & 2011.

The Word Life era was about the only point in time I ever consistently enjoyed watching him.

I completely missed his rise as a performer as I was away from wrestling from WM17 to my return at unforgiven 05 where he fought Kurt Angle. From the second his music hit, I disliked him (just not my jam) and when I saw he was Hogan mk II, it pissed me off no end... I only warmed to him when his matches were no longer a forgone conclusion so say 2015 onwards maybe

Sarcastic John from that one night after WrestleMania where he did a heel turn.

2007 John Cena is my favorite wrestler of all time. I probably wouldn't give 2007 the nod, but I'd definitely rank it above the previous 2 years most of his feuds felt like a copy and paste of one another. He managed to pull a pretty decent match of out Khali, which even Shawn Michaels couldn't do. Also, the Last Man Standing match with Umaga and the hour broadway with HBK on Raw. Not too bad a year considering we were deep in SuperCena territory.

The current one, where he doesn't ruin WWE & instead makes entertaining TV shows.

2003 heel Cena was such a cool character to me. Feuds with Lesnar, Taker & Angle. Matches with Eddie & Benoit. Hell of a start to your first real main roster run that Smackdown roster was stacked until it all went south after Mania XX.m
I still liked him as a face in 2004 just didn’t think the tv or the roster was as good that year wasn’t a fan of the Booker T feud or the Carlito one either. He was absolutely the right choice to dethrone JBL but after that he became massively exposed and it just became very hard to cheer anymore. Once it became clear the lengths WWE were willing to go to get him cheered he became very uncool.
But for a younger generation than myself (I turned 21 at the end of 05) I’m sure he was their guy just like Hogan was in the 80’s.
