James Corden Leaving The Late Late Show In 2023

British comedian and actor turned US talk show host James Corden has announced he will be leaving The Late Late Show next year.



He made the announcement during a recording of the CBS network's show in Los Angeles.



Corden - best known in the UK for TV series Gavin and Stacey - has hosted the US-based talk show since 2015.



Speaking on Thursday's edition of the show, he said it had been "the hardest decision I've ever had to make."



"I never saw [the show] as my final destination and I never want this show to overstay its welcome in any way, I always want to love making it and I really think in a year from now that will be a good time to move on and see what else might be out there," he said.



Corden took over the role of hosting the late-night talk show from comedian and actor Craig Ferguson in 2015.



He has become a household name in the US, presenting notable showbiz awards such as the Tony and Grammy awards.



During his time on The Late Late Show, he introduced segments such as Drop the Mic and Carpool Karaoke - which featured celebrities including singer Adele and Prince Harry. The segments went onto have their own standalone series.

Corden said hosting the show had changed his life.



"I am so proud of what we've achieved, it's been beyond my wildest, wildest dreams," he said.



He added that the coming year's show would be "the best year we have ever had... we are gonna go out with a bang".

Sidenote: Craig Kilbourn was the best Late Late Show host by far.

Now I wonder who they'll will get to replace Corden. I say, since there are persisting rumors that Arsenio Hall is looking to return to late night hosting again, just give him the LLS, CBS!

Disagree with you there. I adored Ferguson and his take on what a talk show should be. I appreciate Colbert but still think that CBS would have had something special had they lived up to their contract with Craig and made him Letterman's replacement.

Gavin and Stacy was, for some unfathomable reason, incredibly popular, but once he moved to the U.S. people quickly tired of him. It's also a pretty open secret that he's a piece of shit behind the scenes, with a shitload of former writers and production staff telling tales of how toxic his presence on the LLS is.

He even turned up to a Writers Guild of America event to advocate for a lower pay grade for staff writers which, when writers called him out on this, he defended by pulling the "they will benefit from the exposure" gambit.

I think Craig Ferguson was certainly up there and had an amazing ability to be very funny and also handle tragic situations like the mass shooting in the cinema in Aurora, Colorado in a human way. 

James Corden has never been funny and he’s lucky Ruth Jones was part of the duo that wrote gavin and Stacey and also Rob Brydon is a comedy genius.

I hadn’t the writers guild of America story but not surprising.

ah gavin and Stacy wasn’t all that bad in fairness and I’ve said Ruth Jones and Rob Brydon were the stars of that show.

😂😂 I read it every so often and I still laugh.

are the stories about the staff and cordens shit treatment of them out there ? I could do with a laugh to see Corden get exposed for the horrible human being.

People turned on him in the UK when he did that awful Horne and Corden comedy show and Lesbian Vampire Killers, and rumours swirled about him being a d*ck behind the scenes. He headed to the states where he started with a clean slate.
