I finally got around to buying this game after all this time, and really enjoyed it for what it was.
I grew up on LucasArts's excellent Star Wars games, especially enjoying the TIE Fighter and later Rogue Squadron games. So this was a great little game for me. There were plenty of callbacks to those previous games with ship design and whatnot.
The campaign is rather brief, but absolutely gorgeous. Playing on an Xbox, the controls could get a little confusing in the heat of battle. The only negative I can really muster is that the dialogue for the rebels is awful.
All in all, a fun compressed game that while I wish was longer, I got my money's worth having bought it so late.
Anyone else here give it a try? Thoughts, impressions?

I got it on release. I'm massive fan of the X-Wing series so was very excited for this. Played on xbox as well and you're right the controls were a little counter intuitive and it was easy to get confused in more hectic situations. I also did the last Imperial mission in a Tie Bomber which was a terrible choice and made that last section an absolute chore.
But it is gorgeous, stunningly so. When the action is good is amazing and I loved, LOVED the little nods and winks to the xwing games.

I like the game, but agree on the controls. It can be a bit awkward in the heat of battle remembering all the controls, but it’s exciting blowing a TIE/X-Wing out of the sky.
It’d be interesting if they could do one replicating battles on Hoth, Endor etc.

I enjoyed it when I played it, not interested in the MP and the SP was very short. Fun though, even though I didn't care for the Imperial side and found it quite funny that the TIE Bomber was portrayed as tough. I get it, balance and everything, but still.
Hopefully a proper X-Wing remake at some time, my flight stick is ready.

Got it at launch, one of the showcases of VR on PS4.
The controls by default are terrible but are easily remedied by changing them.
The game was always meant to be MP. The story mode is a glorified 7hr tutorial for all the different classes.
And I’ll just add, the MP dogfights were incredibly fun at the time. I use past tense because the user base is now a niche of a niche. The spike from being free on PSplus has worn off and dwindled. You can still get a game relatively fast, but everyone still playing is really good. New players are going to get destroyed for awhile.
On a refreshing note, the community on the sub reddit is very accepting and helpful. You can find good videos and tips and tricks to raise your game.

Still, a proper remake of the classic games would be great, chuck the MP in there as well (classic battles and wotnot) and everyone should be happy.

Agreed about it being an absolutely gorgeous game. Even with the campaign mode being essentially a glorified tutorial as it is, I thought the voice acting and character design was honestly done pretty well, the tactics and roles of the various starfighter classes actually seems well thought out and about as realistic as you're going to get for a space opera setting.
Do wish there was more customization available even though the customization that -is- there is quite nice, and do wish it seems like there was plans for more DLC since you'd think it'd be ripe for that sort of thing. It does seem like they're content to let it coast as multiplayer for now, alas.

I recently picked it up to play on my PS5. While I HATE the default configuration of the controls, that's remedied easily enough. I despise the fact that there is not enough of an offline campaign. I'm really not into games where the majority of the game value is dependent on me playing online with either trolling dicks or players that play more than casually and are going to instantly ruin my shit once I start playing. I HATE PvP games for that reason. The X-Wing/Tie Fighter series had massive offline campaigns and I wish this continued that tradition.

This is why I've honestly barely touched multiplayer, I just flat out don't have the time and/or dedication to GIT GUD if you will, and I can't imagine much has changed since I last stopped playing TF2 with any regularity in terms of online players in team-based games just expecting you to immediately be awesome or immediately be kicked. Or judging people based on experience-accumulated aesthetics.

I restarted Jedi: Fallen Order part the way through and bumped it up in difficulty in order to force myself to get better with the gameplay mechanics in order to improve my enjoyment of the game. The last time I restarted it (just this past month), I was dominating all the enemies that used to give me issues even though I was playing on the Jedi Master setting (I did try to play it on the Jedi Grand Master setting, but I never could come close to beating the final boss on that setting and took several evenings to beat the final boss on Danthomir, something I did not relish repeating on the final Second Sister fight).

I got it last year. Like everyone says it's a gorgeous game but the campaign is way to brief, I just want a full next gen Rogue Squadron damnit!

Would have liked more Rogue Squadron in the game but I had an absolute blast playing this. The ships all felt unique and loved coming up with different tactics with different builds. Played it on PC with VR and damn that was exciting. Especially with a joystick

Id like to defend the developers a bit as well over the single-player campaign length. Squadrons was never designed to be a full AAA release. Even on release it was about half the price of most new games. The online mode is the point of the game and the fact we got a single player at all, especially one that tried as hard as this one did is amazing. It's not what I want but hopefully the success of this and Fallen Order sends the right message.
Basically the game is a glorified tech demo and for a glorified demo it's stunningly deep.

That's fine, and to be honest if it were priced like normal games I would not have bought it because I was already made aware the solo campaign was short. I have no interest in PvP. The campaign is fun enough while it lasts, mind you, so had it been expanded I would have very happily paid more for a longer version of that campaign.

So I'm just about done with my second playthrough, and man I wish the campaign was longer. Like everyone has said, it's just not long enough.
I do like how they incorporated support ships like the Reaper and U Wing, and I love the setting, just after Return of the Jedi. I grew up reading the expanded universe books, and always found this time very interesting. The Imperials fragmenting while the rebellion consolidated and became more legitimate.
If only they had added a few more missions. :/
