www.youtube.com/watch?v=lisHsDX8qo0As Craig DeGeorge did, I will warn you that this is a bit graphic footage. Why did they do this? I found it unusual, as a lot of people saw the WWF's syndie shows on SatAM's.

Yeah, at least stuff like the Warrior being stuffed in a coffin or the cobra munching Savage's arm was fake and made sense in the context of the storyline, this was real life stuff. I guess they were trying to make us more sympathetic to Billy by showing what he had to go through, but I cant see the sponsors or tv stations being thrilled about this (I wonder if they complained back in 87).

WTF?!
Is this the only time WWF ever aired such a graphic surgery?
I remember in 1997 Bret Hart had his knee worked on and they even showed it on the Titantron as he was coming out. But with that it was tough to make out anything because it was just an extreme closeup of what was happening. Also, it was very brief.
This though? This must have made a bunch of little kids shit themselves.

Yep, they showed the quad surgery, I very clearly remember it, but it was fairly brief.

It was no worse than most of the things that Candle Cove was showing at the same time.

geez and I thought some of the pics they posted on WWE.com of various surgeries over the years were graphic.

I don't remember being scared of it, but yeah...you know, for kids!
(I was more frightened by what a post here describes...the casket and snake angles. Damian being killed. Geez, 1991 was hardcore for WWF...still cartoony violence, but extreme cartoony violence. Any fireball attacks too. Remember Nightmare on Elm Street was big, and I was afraid that everyone who got burned would end up looking like Freddy)
Not even "well, Superstars/Challenge was syndicated, it could be anywhere on the schedule" suffices. WWF was firmly into the family friendly entertainment phase at this point. Despite still having blood in some matches.
I do remember a pixellated version airing too, though.
I wonder if WWF had to prove something to someone, which necessitated them showing Graham was indeed operated on.
