It shouldn’t be that tough. f*** it make the table monitors completely useless and like giant pillows. Not for every show or even one entire show as the commentators obviously need them. But just imagine how surprising it would be if for the first time in like 20 years a wrestler puts his opponent through the commentator’s table without pausing to clear the table off first.

I dunno, I think you could bump on the modern monitors pretty easily. It would be like getting tossed onto iPads. The old big box monitors tho? Dear god those would be painful

I think the issue is that commentary watches a lot of the show on the monitors so any other substitute wouldn’t work for, in theory, the commentary team getting the full context of the situation in front of them.
Like, even if they had breakable table monitors, you’d still have to take out the actual ones before the spot and that seems like unneeded work.

Or maybe the commentators should take the monitors with them when they see a table spot is coming and clear the area.
But yes, it does look awkward when wrestlers, in the midst of the fight, take time to clear the area of expensive electronics. Just yell "Move!" to the commentators and that's the cue to clear the area and take the monitors with them.

It's a way to build up anticipation for the table spot. Sure you can do it without, Randy does the back drop spot without clearing the table. But the act of ripping the top off will get the crowd pumped for what's about to take place every time.

For those in the arena and at home, it’s sort of a signal that stuff’s about to go down. It’d be like expecting tables to be pre set up before spots, it wouldn’t work the same way.

What sense does it make to smash your opponent through a table if you don't first remove all the dangerous objects?

They could probably do away with the whole deal since LED monitors are thin and not as much of a hazard to bump on, and probably as cheap as they've ever been, though still decently expensive since live broadcasting requires as little delay as possible, hence why the CRTs stayed around the announce table well after most homes ditched them. But clearly, no one wants to stop doing it since the table clearing gets such a massive pop every time.

Make them out of squeaky toy material without mentioning anything and then have someone throw it at somebody else's head. The noise would literally improve the whole world's mental health.

At this point they could probably figure out a system to have iPads in drop cases if they wanted.

It reminds me of an episode of Friends .. when a character played by Hank Azeria wanted to passionately make out with Phoebe on a desk, clears the stuff off it with his arm. but stops to carefully remove a microscope saying that it’s really expensive.

They should grab the run down sheet off the table and give the guy a paper cut. That shit hurts.

What sense does it make to smash your opponent through a table if you don't first remove all the dangerous objects? Serious injury / death goes beyond the accepted risks of the sport. They could face civil and criminal liability if they do not clear objects that could impale the opponent.

We've seen people set alight, multiple examples of vehicular assault, assault with various weapons, people thrown off buildings and other high structures, eyes gouged out, limbs purposefully broken, stabbings, druggings, sexual assaults, peopole buried alive, an attempt to immolate someone with fireworks, venomous snake attacks, attmepted stabbing with a broardsword, throats intentonally crushed. I don't think they're all that worried about occupational health and safety.
