How many have there been?
Seems like they were all the rage and then they all stopped. Probably because they started looking like Office clones.
I only remember Parks and Rec and Modern family, but I swear there were more.
I do know now, that they’re doing it with Abott Elementary. It’s the show that made my think of this,
Also, how many of them actually committed to the documentary gimmick all the way to the end? I was watching an old clip of modern family and just realized a bunch of scenes where the camera man shouldn’t have been there. Not to mention, a lot of talking heads of them talking in between scenes that sounded more like thoughts in their head.
Parks and Rec had so many time skips, it would make no sense for a documentary crew to be following them around for so long.

This Country. It's hilarious but probably only works if you're from the UK, one if the characters even looks like Gareth from the UK office.

Reno 911! Is documentary style, right?

Reno 911! Is documentary style, right? Yea. It's like a "Cops" parody. And for my money, the best faux reality sitcom.

Parks and Rec had so many time skips, it would make no sense for a documentary crew to be following them around for so long. I've been listening to Rob Lowe's Parks and Rec podcast with one of the show's writers/producers, and behind the scenes they very quickly abandoned the documentary aspect as they found it limiting in what they could do storytelling-wise, but kept the bare bones as a framing device as it made the show easier to write and film.

The Office stuck pretty well to bring a documentary, as in times where the characters were having serious talks the camera would shoot them from afar or through windows.

I initially wrote off Parks & Rec as an Office knockoff until I actually watched it.

Can’t call it a knock off since it pre dates both versions of The Office
ABC in Australia had show called “The Games” which was a mockumentary about the organisation of the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games. It starred the late great John Clarke, Brain Dawe, and Gina Riley (Kim from Kath & Kim)
It was a great show .. only a couple of series (hard to keep the show going once the Olympics was done).. There was talks of sequels series being made by one of the Australian commercial networks for the 2012 London Olympics.. but didn’t go ahead.
Plus if your are talking knock offs, the BBC actually did rip this show with their mockumentary about Olympic Games organising committee.. not seen it, but have seen that show’s spin off W10 something and it’s f***ing horrible.

I mean, for the first season it basically was, and it was an Office spinoff until quite late in development. Wow, I actually never knew about the latter part. NBC ordered a spinoff, and tasked Greg Daniels, who adapted The Office for America, and Michael Schur, who was an Office staff writer, to produce one. The spinoff idea was abandoned at the casting stage after Amy Poehler signed on and they switched to a wholly unrelated story, though aspects of spinoff concept, namely the mockumentary style, were kept.

Not that it's like the Office in the slightest, and certainly it isn't cribbing from it, but would Garth Marenghi's Darkplace count?

I don't believe it was ever filmed but there was supposed to be a scene in the first episode where a photocopier was picked up from Dunder Mifflin & delivered to Pawnee.

Trailer Park Boys kept with the documentary style right to the end, Even one of the camera guys from the documentary team got shot in an episode, then returned from hospital later on in the episode.

“Welcome to Flatch” is a first year show shot in documentary style. I doubt it will get a second year because it isn’t very funny.

This Country is clearly heavily inspired by The Office. But it still manages to be very good. Though I don't think it'd translate well to non-British audience.

Remember the brief Muppets sitcom from like, wow, was it nearly 10 years ago?
That too.
This may be cheating, but how about MST3K originally? Which was acknowledged early on as "just a show" that the Mads were selling to cable.

Remember the brief Muppets sitcom from like, wow, was it nearly 10 years ago? I thought that show was very unfairly maligned. People are just touchy about their Muppets, and the big complaint was that Kermit was a jerk sometimes. Then they made him nicer and the show got less funny.
