Kal Penn's on the run for rape and murder, calls into a TV station to gloat. There's the sound of a boat in the background and Lake immediately recognizes exactly where to find him, with the explanation being, "I don't sleep, I walk. The sounds of the city, I know them all."
After that episode is one that's always fun, the one that randomly opens with Goldberg smashing up the office until they tase him then hit him with a chair.

All the outlandishness is worth it if I get to watch an episode where Diane Neal is heavily featured. 😍

"And YOU....you lazy bitch, you're the worst of ALL. I just found THREE typos." That might be my favorite episode of the show. The entire thing is a f***ing ride. You know it's special when, "And then they just left a handicapped woman shouting for help without a word," is kind of an afterthought in going over the batshit crazy stuff in that episode.

Killing Benson's brother off seems like it could only do good things for the show given every episode he appears in has her turn into a total dumbass. Worst of it's probably his debut where she lets some serial rapists go free and causes a guy to be raped in the process because she's too busy stalking her brother to do her job.

One I forgot about. Loony fan of a serial killer starts carrying out murders styled after comics based on his work. Includes them seeing an incredibly detailed painting of the Venus de Milo in someone's blood and somehow immediately (and correctly) presuming that the victim must still be alive and someone blowing up their squad room by sending them a pizza containing a bomb.

I didn’t realize John Waters would be a perfect cameo for this show until I saw it. But between how over the top the show is and Waters love for camp it makes sense. He plays the owner of a cam girl service where something goes wrong.

As much as Intimidation Game gets rightfully ragged on I think people tend to overlook one of the dumbest aspects of that episode, where they bring back an artist from an earlier episode that's a giant Slenderman knockoff and twist his arm to get him to help them by telling him it's illegal to profit from a crime... even though 1), he's not the one who committed the crime, and 2), the Slenderman knockoff was something he'd himself made before the crime based on it even happened.

Will Sasso is playing a garbageman father of a music prodigy of some kind. His daughter disappears and is eventually found with her teacher. But they're in the love. Then Sasso's wide drops a bomb vince Russo would be proud of. The mother breaks down her past and looks at the teacher screaming she's yours. You're sleeping with your own daughter! Swerve bro

I don’t think that John Mulaney bit goes far enough with how ridiculous Ice-T is on this show. In that previous mentioned cam girl episode he had to have what a cam girl is explained to him. He has now been on the show for 22 years and it’s like he knows less about his job every season. It’s going to devolve to…
Ice-T: Hold up, you mean to tell me sex can happen between a man and a woman?
Benson: Yes, heterosexual intercourse has traditionally been defined as when a man puts his penis in a woman’s vagina.
Ice-T: You mean to tell me that the penis goes into the vagina?

I haven't been into it as much since Stabler left and it became the Olivia Benson Show. But I always enjoyed when the killer would either be caught or reveal themselves and then would start a "I've gathered you all here to tell you how and why I did it" monologue. Like, stop giving them evidence to use against you!

Continuing to rewatch the show, I kind of can't believe I'm saying this but season 18 craters in quality. Like, it's a largely bad show to begin with but season 18 you can really tell even without being aware of it that they got a new showrunner who promptly left after the season was over because the continuity just completely falls apart, a lot of story arcs the show was positioning just seem to be completely aborted, and many of the episodes are especially aimless and stupid with tons of weird lapses in logic. It's just a really noticeable downgrade from the season before it.
Also a sudden huge amount of, "Oh no, this case of the day just happens to perfectly mash up with my most defining character trait!" Like the show's always done that but it feels like every episode in this one.

Mostly because for some reason it's considered a gold standard for that genre, and I don't know why.

Season 18, episode 18, Spellbound. Woman claims she was drugged, guy says they had consensual sex, tox screen comes back clean, for some reason rather than even consider for a moment that the guy could be innocent they instead immediately hop onboard the idea that he hypnotized her.

I wish they would have done an episode that revealed Diane Neal's character from Dracula II: Ascension and Casey Novak were the same person and somehow incorporated vampires into it as well.

I think it was the show that led to the crime detective drama genre boom in the first place.

I caught the opening of an episode that showed a dating game show. It was said that some of the couples went to bed together, but then the footage showed what looked like...sexual assault (I didn't want to use the R-word). No way would that be shown on national TV.
What I also thought was ridiculous was the episode that was based on the Chris Brown/Rihanna fiasco. I know that it mainly touched on domestic abuse, but when it showed the Chris Brown guy beating his singer girlfriend, there were witnesses, yet everyone denied everything despite the blatant stuff happening. Not to mention that the Chris Brown guy killed the girlfriend's mentor at a club when there were likely CCTV cameras and no one bothered to look at footage for evidence.

Season 12 episode "Bombshell"
A couple (played by Rose McGowan & Ryan Hirst) meet rich couples at sex clubs & scam them out of money. Plot revolved around said rich guy getting stabbed in his gentleman's sausage. Later on it is revealed that the crime duo are actually twins. Was a completely unnecessary plot point that added or changed nothing about the episode. Purely there for shock value.
