I agree with this thought in principle, my issue is that I think AEW occasionally has skewed time management priorities. The women's match being 9 minutes just makes it a bit glaring how much more time most of the men's matches get. Other matches they have seem to climax for like five minutes too long, although that was mainly a problem in the early days. Personnel matters in this case, I think: Storm and Hayter put together seem built for that kind of sprint, and it makes them both look strong. Do it with a different combination of talent and it possibly doesn't click the same way. Yeah, it's like when A-Train got beat in around five minutes. He screamed a lot running at 1,000 mph speed, hit his corner splash, hit the Train Wreck, hit the Baldo Bomb. Went out for the kill - went out of gas quickly. When two wrestlers throw grenade after grenade at each other, I'm good with them having a more condensed match. Neither one looks weak in the process.

It’s also the fact that they usually only book one women’s match on a two hour show that makes it stick out more.

AEW's women's division really feels like it's starting to turn a corner, with matches like Riho/Yuka and this one. Rosa/Deeb has been a pretty good, old school, "challenger wants the belt" kind of story too, so if that match delivers it will really be the cherry on top of the best couple of months the AEW women's division has had in my opinion. I do feel optimistic. I also have appreciated, on the other side of things, giving Jade the Baddies, since Red Velvet and Kiera Hogan definitely needed something to do and it will cut back on "if you're a face, you have to face Bunny and Penelope Ford like 38 times."

He was giving us a precious preview of GIANT BERNARD, and we took it all for granted.

Something that I want to see more of on Dynamite is the less than 10 minute match. The desire to constantly go 15-20 can drag and feel samey, and having a really good 5-10 minute tv match is an art in and of itself. This was a really good example of that. Two wrestlers who rely on explosive moves and a quick match going at it until one slipped up and got caught.
More of that please and thank you.

Once Kenny's back, if they ever get the chance to book him against the guys in House of Black, Murphy in particular, a crazed 10-12 minute match would probably get the crowd to go insane. They'd make everybody else look like they were moving in slow motion, though, so you'd have to book them for the end of the show.

I care a lot more about the quality of the match than sitting there with a stopwatch counting how long it lasts. Hayter vs Storm was just about paced perfectly and it used every second of that match well. It served as a great contrast to the underwhelming match between Purrazzo and Martinez where it had a slow build up only to suddenly end as the match started to get more interesting.

A match only needs to go as long as is necessary. Nothing more, nothing less. If it means going 10 minutes? Great. If it means going an hour? Wonderful. Whatever time is needed for the story to be told.

True. But I think this match could have used five more minutes. Both for the crowd investment and it would have turned a good match into a great one.

Fitting that this was a great sprint in the Owen, since Owen was damn good at sprint matches. Examples include vs. 123 Kid at KOR '94 & vs. Ken Shamrock on the Hart Dungeon.
