Man I love the continuity of HBK Punk being a huge heel to the Montreal Long Island crowd because of the feud with Bret MJF.
The Tavares jersey? *chefs kiss*
And then there’s this….
…the world of professional wrestling remains better with Punk in it.

As a Toronto Maple Leafs fan, I burst out laughing when I realized he was wearing a Tavares jersey. Absolutely brilliant.

Punk trolling the Neanderthals of Long Island with hockey is one of my favorite things.

There's also a good chance in my view that Punk or MJF are world champion the next time they come back which could be a lot of fun.

This kind of thing is a good way to have people play face/heel for a night without having to turn. Good way of testing things, adding depth and just generally adding some intrigue.

I love how willing Punk is now to do silly stuff like this. Seems like something he would have had a bee in his bonnet about in WWE. It tells me he's probably just a lot happier these days.

As a non-American that knows zero about American sports, the shirt and name on the back completely flew over my head.
But Punk selling the beatdown for that long is absolutely amazing. I'm so glad to see that Punk is enjoying himself so much in AEW. After so long away from wrestling and the bitterness he had towards the business (justified, IMO) it's just so nice to see how he's fallen back in love with it.

I really respect the willingness to play with the formula of how wrestling traditionally works but I really do kinda hate it

As a non-American that knows zero about American sports, the shirt and name on the back completely flew over my head. . The New York Islanders play in Long Island. A few years back, franchise star and team Captain John Tavares left the team when he became a free agent and signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Islanders fans were literally having mass jersey burnings when that happened, they f***ing HATE him now. It was brilliant trolling on Punk’s part

Loved him cutting his music to come down to a chorus of boos. That was awesome.

It was brilliant trolling on Punk’s part I loved how Excalibur didn't get it at first, then clearly got some info telling him what Punk had done. I also love that when AEW comes back to Queens for Grand Slam, Punk will likely be 100% over as a huge babyface, but all he has to do is go a few miles east and he wants to absolutely get a lot of the same people to hate his guts. And hey, LI ain't the city proper, so have at it, I say!

"Chilled Out Old Man Punk" is something I'm so glad that's happened. I know there are some things that still bother him, but it feels like so much of what was frightening about him has passed and he just feels like he fits into the show so much better now, instead of standing outside of it.

I messaged my friend saying the continued Punk vs New Jersey/MJF hometown hero stuff is some of my favourite things about AEW. Makes them both feel like real people, rather than actors following a specific script

MJF has managed to turn the whole of Long Island heel (or face, depending on how you look at it!). Only a legend.
As comfortable and likeable as Punk is in his Wise Old Man Punk phase, he seemed to enjoy going full heel again.

Which is what made it all the better when he did the infamous "I'm a snake" promo in Morristown; he had us all cheering him the entire match against Aries, then decided to give us a final "@#$% you" before he left.

I forgot that Punk had certain areas that hated him in ROH! I enjoyed that back then too! Of course now when he came to New Jersey with AEW, the crowd went bananas for just seeing him do an entrance before going to the announce desk. But thanks to MJF, Long Island is the last bastion of irrational(ly fun) Punk hatred...
