I expected nothing from Jeff in this run, and I like Sting more than Darby, and with it being no DQ I thought it would be scary if anything.
Apologies if I missed the thread for this!
This match f***ing RIPPED ASS
Hardy came out there as the larger guy in a match, a rarity for him on TV at least, also in the position to play a wily veteran with something to prove
Darby comes into it looking like he waited his whole life for this moment
What a match! Thrills, spills... hopefully no pills. I have found Jeff's work uninspiring for years, this is the first time in ages that I saw just how goddamn good he can be.
I am down on a lot of AEW stuff these days, but they took something I expected nothing from and blew my mind with it.
Some spots were definitely a bit scary, but it was quite cleverly less risky than it seemed quite often. What a match!

The oddest part being there live was Jeff looked to be totally fine after all those big bumps but oddly sold the most after doing his corner dropkick that he's done a thousand times. It's easy to forget that big bumps can hurt but they're often designed to be safer than you think. It can often be the less flashy stuff that does a number on you.

Hardy takes a scary bump from a ladder = completely fine Hardy falls into bed a little too quick = immense pain

I did not really care for it
They did a lot to try to make it a safe as possible but some of those bumps was just nasty especially Darby landing on the chair from the ladder
It def went as expected tho

Not to take away from the agency of the performers who want to do this, but it felt weird and disingenuous to me.
The commentary team going “oh no, please don’t do it!”
...Except the whole thing is sold as: “Oh yeah, they’re gonna do crazy shit.”
Weird. Didn’t like it.

That's literally been every Jeff Hardy match ever though, crazy shit is expected, it's advertised, but it doesn't mean that commentary can't be like 'Oh god DON'T", they can be concerned for someone even if they knew something nuts would happen.

Fair enough. It just didn’t sit well with me, especially with the wild chair fall Darby did.

Didn’t like the optics of all this being played in front of wrestling’s most famous widow and in a setting meant to “honour” Owen Hart. Match was always going to be a car crash though…
Got lambasted for suggesting such a thing in the live thread.
Seemed very tone deaf to me.

You put words in a widow's mouth, suggesting you knew how she felt watching a match with high spots in it, and what she was absolutely ok and not ok with seeing like you were sitting right next to her. Doubling down on that seems more tone deaf than anything, imo. Owen Hart's death had nothing to do with high spots, at all, so as was said in the live thread, the pearl clutching for someone else about this is way more off-putting to me than anything I saw in that match.

I loved it. I'm so glad that Jeff didn't do the swanton from that huge ass ladder though. Wasn't necessary anyway.

Sometimes it's fun to watch a car crash match and that's what we got. Good match? Nah. But it was very entertaining and pretty much what you'd expect from those two.

Also, if Martha Hart had objected to these spots, I'm sure she would have spoken up ahead of time. Owen's death was accidental. These spots are planned and executed by people who've trained for them. Big difference. It was a little cringe for me seeing that ladder and then the spot with the chairs on the outside. More importantly, it told a good story and I was hyped for this one due to the history between Sting and Jeff Hardy.

Jeff is washed, but he and Darby made the most out of this and made an absolutely fun car crash match.

I think your opinion is wrong too. Am I not allowed to respond? Maybe you need to brush up on how forums work. You post, and then people can respond if they disagree. It is not your choice whether they respond. If you don't like people responding to you, block them. And then ignore them.
It is "annoying AF" also when people start taking out their personal grievances on other people in public. This is a board to talk about wrestling, it is not SRS BUSINESS.

*ahem*
Jeff Hardy in AEW has been a real pleasant surprise so far. He'd been doing jack shit in WWE for so long it's nice to see what he can still do when motivated. I'm not sure how much he has left in the tank but it's nice to see him use it in a way that exciting.

I'm sure there's a headspace where it would have been enjoyable but I saw a hastily built TV match treated like it was a way bigger deal and thrown together with spots and spots and spots, and broken down Jeff is just tough to watch no matter what he's doing. It was one of the wrestling matches I have seen.

I wasn't a big fan of the match, but the Martha Hart concern trolling is even worse.

It utterly trivializes Owen’s death and the circumstances surrounding why and how it happened to even imply that Martha should have been upset because a trained professional wrestler did a ladder spot in a match. I won’t say your opinion is wrong, because it’s an opinion. But I will absolutely quote you and tell you it’s a gross and disingenuous opinion.
