I’m willing to bet WWE don’t have an endgame in mind for what happens if Reigns decided to leave or retire.

I argue they have been coasting since about 2005. Once they humiliated the WCW people they hired there was no one left to challenge them so no need to try.

Even now with a legitimate alternative, they continue to keep pace because over the course of a decade+ they have, essentially, indoctrinated an entire generation of viewers that what we think is total garbage is actually the best stuff out there.

Like others have said WWE has no reason to stop coasting they just keep being given giant TV deals etc.

It is in part why I am glad Sasha and Naomi did what they did because THAT is the only way left that WWE is ever going to truly start feeling some type of pressure is when more talents like Sasha just choose to leave/not re-sign and WWE is left with no one to be able to fill those slots either because they can't because their blank slates just are not up to snuff or just do not value a talent who could.

Firstly, For someone who says this isn't serious, you certainly took it very seriously. Relax.

People can like what they like and I encourage it, at no point have I said or will I ever say liking a product is because they forced them to like it.

IMO WWE's goal is to have a crowd whose wrestling knowledge is what they themselves have presented. EG; They know WCW existed and the mighty WWE beat them but wouldn't know how badly WCW kicked their asses or how they stole various angles and ideas from ECW. I'm sure the crowd is a good mix but there is a reason they have recently issued memos (Though likely they won't) to avoid hiring indy wrestlers and change the names of the ones they do. It's why they have a vice on their wrestler's income streams and likeness. It's a WWE-centric ecosphere Vince has spent a long time making.

Anyway, that's just my two cents. If you can't be on a forum where folks float out differing ideas and opinions that's on you.

Just because they might have a plan, does not guarantee that the plan is any good. At this stage, with nobody coming out of a feud with Roman looking better than when they came in and no credible challengers for his titles at present, the plan (if there is one) looks like shit.

A Rock vs Reigns match at 'mania is not worth killing the heat of the entire main roster.

I grew up watching WCW, WWF and ECW, and I still enjoy WWE (and AEW) today. Considering the average age of the WWE viewer skews older, I’d imagine most of the WWE fanbase started watching well before WWE became the only game in town.

It's not exactly a new tactic for WWE though, right? How many years - long, slow, annoying, draining years - have we seen somebody at the top who simply repels all challengers with ease, crushing anybody who gets near them and sending them plummeting back down the card into obscurity? Cena, Lesnar, now Reigns would be three horrendous examples I can think of. Obviously many will mention Triple H's reign of terror too. They've been doing it to varying degrees for a long, long time. It's as though they can't conceive of a gradient between the top of the card and everything else, where there's a transition layer between the midcard and the uppercard, or the uppercard and those with a serious shot at the title picture. It's just Super Mega Badass Guy and "everyone else".

Obviously it's fine to have a strong champion, but it's just so tedious to watch them defy logic to make it happen. Good ol' Teflon John, how many times did we see him supposedly in dire straits, only for it to result in absolutely nothing of note and him being back to being chipper unbeaten John Cena again the next week? Zero character development. He didn't act like a normal realistic human, it was like his internal game save was just erased after every episode of RAW. How many people did we see try to challenge Lesnar? How many times did WWE try to convince us that "yes, this guy really could beat Lesnar! for real this time! we promise!", only for it to result in the obvious and predictable murder?

Even strong characters are boring without a serious threat, a challenge, real adversity. It's at its best when even the guy who thinks he's untouchable is unnerved and genuinely at risk. The irony, of course, is that the one time it made sense for such a streak to continue, they broke it, with Brock Lesnar beating The Undertaker, when what people would probably rather have seen is somebody beat Lesnar. But, regardless, if there's a 99% chance that the king of the castle is going to win yet again, probably without even breaking a sweat, what's the point? What am I tuning in to see? I'm not going to bother cheering for my guy to beat Lesnar or Reigns or whoever, because they probably won't, so I'll just get to see them embarrassed, beaten, and kicked back down into loserville.

"All hope is lost" is a fine device for adding drama to a fictional world, but there has to be somebody capable of coming to save the day. If no such person exists then it's just a crushing, miserable, soul-sucking, depressing slog.

I won't talk shit on what anyone likes wrestling wise, even if I personally think the WWE product is a straight up dumpster fire that's creatively bankrupt. I'm sure the arguments could just as easily be made that AEW is just Indy wrestling with a budget and WWE castoffs. To that extent, it's all subjective.

What I will say is this: if you don't like the current WWE product, then it just sucks to be you. They don't care. They haven't cared since Smackdown moved to Fox. They have even less reason to care now that the network is on Peacock.

The purpose of any business is to make money, and in times past, WWE had to put forth more effort creatively to make it. Now they don't, so they won't. It's that simple.

Once again, speaking personally, as long as the wrestling that I want to watch is available to me and is doing well enough financially, I ultimately don't care how the WWE is doing beyond wanting the talent they exploit to have less one-sided bullshit deals.
