There’s too many factors at play here for it to be as simple as “Rodriguez/Aliyah are gonna go on a proper run with these things”. Apparently Kai wasn’t the legal wrestler for her team which would be grounds for a rematch, there’s the probable return of Banks/Naomi at some point… Like, I’d be very surprised if they’re still champions by the end of September.

If WWE doesn't address this, it's gonna get really ugly.

Also Aliyah is so bad in the ring they WWE have had her wrestle as little as possible in this whole thing. THEY know she isn’t good.
Putting the belt on her is just stupid.

They went against conventional wisdom, likely because they have Sasha and Naomi coming back and they may not be going right to Sasha/Naomi vs. Kai and Sky. It’s may not be the result people want but I really don’t think it’s going to have some catastrophic effect on the show. To your point, it was a wonky finish. If Sasha and Naomi came back and just beat Kai and Sky right away, what does it accomplish? This is setting up the rightful champs coming back, beating the current champs and then we get the money match. It makes sense.

Meanwhile, you get Sasha and Naomi coming back, beating Aliyah and Raquel, which could turn Raquel and give her a little more to work with while you then get Sasha and Naomi feuding with Kai and Sky. I really don’t think it’s that big a deal. Maybe it’s just me.

The dream came true. Aliyah's rise in the WWE has been a truly inspiring story. She was in NXT forever looking like she was never gonna get called up, threw up on herself on live TV, got screwed out of the Survivor Series match by that racist Sonya Deville, and her first epic showdown with Shotzi got nixed for some reason. But she never gave up and now she's the champ.

There's like...no good way to spin this. You either undermined Damage CTRL for a cheap pop for the babyfaces, and two pretty bad ones at that. Or (and this would be much worse and completely undermine any sort of trust I would have in Aliyah), she botched the finish and rolled up the wrong person. And if that happened, they need to drop those titles fairly quickly, and Aliyah needs to be sent back to the PC for the rest of her contract, because you don't screw up a finish that goddamn bad. Hell, they need to drop them quickly either way, because Aliyah is just outright awful in every single aspect. This also makes Dakota and Iyo look incredibly bad, which if that wasn't WWE's intention, they will need to fix that. And I would assume if it wasn't their intention to make those two look bad, it'll probably be when Iyo or Dakota gets a clean pin on Bianca at Clash at the Castle, hopefully.

Bad match with an awkward finish but I'd be surprised if they don't drop the belts soon anyways

Shotzi literally told Aliyah she'd never wake up and now she's a fully lucid champion. Inspirational as hell.

I wish Shotzi was Raquel’s partner instead of Aliyah.

I wish Shotzi was Raquel’s partner instead of Aliyah. I think the next few months is going the about righting some of the mistakes made in the division. You’ll see folks like Shotzi and Raquel change alignment and maybe in Shotzi’s case, get their last name back. I’m actually hopeful for where things are going.

If she pinned the wrong person then wouldn't have Dakota just kicked out? Yeah. I’ve watched just about every tag match that’s been televised over the last 18 years and one thing that they’re usually pretty good at nowadays is making sure the people who are legal are the ones involved in the deciding fall (unless there are Twin Magic shenanigans). If the wrong person was pinned here, it was intentional for the next part of the story.

The PPV match feels bigger, more important if they are the champs going in. Nor coming off losing a title match in lame fashion 5 days earlier.

Damage CTRL took a massive hit tonight, credibility wise. If they want Iyo and Dakota to be taken as threats going forward, they need a very strong and decisive win at Clash. No heel garbage. Just straight up one of them pinning Bianca or something, clean. It doesn't help that they had Iyo's finisher get kicked out of either, and by proxy, Dakota's as well.

Oh my God, we live in a time where both Liv and Aliyah are champions. I'm done.
