Technically, it started earlier then that with Dracula Untold.

I assume this all would have led to The New Monster Squad: Earth's Frightiest Heroes.

The fact that it only has two tweets and the link redirects straight to the Warner brothers site is Kino.

I’m still disappointed that this didn’t happen.

I can't believe it's only been five years, it's felt twice as long.

Technically, it started earlier then that with Dracula Untold. no that was a different attempt at getting a Universal Monsters universe started... the SECOND failed attempt... as the first was to come out of the Wolfman remake...

Wasn't that also the intention of Van Helsing? Not so much. Universal were hoping Stephen Sommers could work the same kind of magic with the Dracula IP that he had with the Mummy. There was a possibility they might have considered tying in the two, but Van Helsing's underwhelming performance with critics and audiences and The Mummy 3's complete failure on every level put an end to that.

Really wish they'd used the campy Brendan Fraser films as the basis for a shared cinematic universe, imagine how much more fun they could have had with stuff like the Wolfman or the creature from the black lagoon if that's the tone they went for, instead of... whatever the dark universe was going for.

Everything is better with Brendan Fraser. Fraser in the Fury role would have been way better than just randomly having Dr. Jeckyll there.

If only Universal hadn't rejected Guillermo del Toro's pitch, The Shape of Water could have been their Creature From the Black Lagoon film.
