I do think if the match happens they'll work in the "He tried to book a flight out of Vegas to avoid having this match but it failed" into the actual storyline, but otherwise, yeah, I don't see this being anything kayfabe at the onset, just a really strange situation to have happen on the eve of a huge event

It's clear at this point MJF wants his release. TK only has two options. Let him go or make him sit out his contract. Really they should let him go. It wasn't OK when WWE hung onto Ali or Harper/Lee way back when.
Business wise, you'd be handing the competition your biggest heel and torching years worth of stories. But for whatever reason MJF seems desperate to get out so... let him.
It's a shame, there was so much left in the tank for MJFs run. A title run, a face turn etc. Oh well.
However there's a larger question here. This will be the second major name to walk out on AEW this year. That points to something quite toxic or broken behind the scenes. In both cases you seem to have a situation where their relationship with TK has fundamentally broken. That's... bad.

MJF knew the ending to this Wardlow story since the very beginning so I find it hard to believe he would be like I don’t want to do the job now. Sucks if he is on the way to the fed. I’m sure his loss to the Miz and 24/7 champion reign will entertain some people.

I don't want that to happen, we all just know how WWE is But Meltzer and Alvarez claiming it are one thing, if they want that money, that's their decision, hope they get it if they want it, but there's zero guarantee they will be presented half as decently as Cody |
