I don't think it was a work at the onset

I do however, think if they reached out to MJF, worked something out, and are having the match, they can kayfabe what happened INTO the storyline, not showing up, trying to get a plane out of Vegas, all trying to duck Wardlow and not have the match

This isn't to say MJF wouldn't be punished or what he did would be handwaved away, I'm saying it could be a compromise to get shit back on track, and then deal with MJF postmatch, if he gets a suspension or something, Wardlow destroying him would be a good time to write him out if that'd be the case.

But is a compromise a good thing for Tony to do is what I'm saying?

A compromise just puts him in the 'not a work' camp, even if they later work it, and if that gets out to the rest of the crew, who tries this next now they know Tony will compromise?

And if he compromises now and then crushes MJF tomorrow to make sure someone else doesnt try this, which is a classic Vince move, does he lose MJF anyway but in a way that means he's paying him to sit and tweet shit for 18 months, which may also sound. like a decent situation to some guys?

It's a pretty shit situation either way, unless they work it that it was a work that Tony was in on, even when he wasn't, so people think he was, so they dont try it on because they think there was nothing being tried on, but there really was, and so MJF gets away with it for now, but Tony loses all trust in him but has to pretend he hasnt to keep the backstage status quo?

I’m usually someone who falls into the “enjoys being worked camp.” Like it’s wrestling, fun to just shut off my brain and cheer the good guys boo the bad guys.

However, I’m also just tired of all this. The best built match on the card has really taken a big hit these past 24ish hours. I’m sure the PPV will deliver, but I agree it’s lost a bit of hype via this story overshadowing it.

Really whatever's happening, AEW really needs to just make it clear at this point. The show's in under two hours and we still don't have any actual indication what the hell's happening.

Though personally I were Tony Khan I'd be doing what I could to get MJF to be there tonight and then fire his ass tomorrow.

Since there's been no announcement, I'm thinking the match goes on as planned.

MJF no showing Fan Fest seems to me like that was a work in itself, since the character wouldn't do a Fan Fest type appearance anyway, but yes, would play slots.

Maybe the rumor mill blew things up and they leaned into it.

I’m thinking that if there’s no announcement soon, the match is on. If the whole thing was legit, I’d be inclined to get that match on first to make sure nothing else happens.

They wouldn't be offering refunds to fans or wait until the last minute to say he wasn't there if it was a work.

I think this is overshadowing the PPV as a whole. I've already ordered the PPV but I've barely thought about the other matches since this all kicked off.

Depends on how they go about addressing it. They could acknowledge the situation directly, they could just ignore the match was ever announced, they could do an angle where MJF loses via forfeit, there are a lot of ways they could play it that don't directly involve being completely upfront about it, even though they really should be.

If the match indeed doesn't happen this might end up making Wardlow in kind of a different way. Can very easily see people mythologizing the whole scenario of a guy being supposed to get his huge breakout performance only to have it taken away at the last moment just because of how insane and movie-like it is.

Same. This is the first show I’m watching with my brother since All Out where we’re in the same room and it feels weird. Especially since, like you said, I only expected the smallest of heat segments and MJF being ingrained to the Earth’s crust.

It’s at least good that whatever happens is over and done with so the rest of the show can stand on its own. I’d like a statement but if something’s been figured out, better to just do it right away.
