To clarify I am very happy his legacy was given a spotlight and that Martha and the kids were involved with the opening and presentation. But as a tournament what did it accomplish? Look at the final four. Ruby is seemingly happy to work with younger talent & do some underneath matches, Joe is off in ROH* land, and Britt & Adam are Britt & Adam. It just seemed like a waisted opportunity to build some new people up, a turn, or kick off a bit angle. Instead it was a bunch of matches that ranged from really good to mostly ok. Just seemed like a bit of a waste to me.

Seems like the only point was to make Adam Cole and Britt Baker look better than they really are. You can only polish a turd for so long.
I think it was a missed opportunity to build up new talent.

To give Britt and Cole anything that puts them on a pedistal. Ruby has now lost 2 finals. It was blatantly obvious when they came out wearing pink and black and their opponents didn't and after Cole won and they did not have the coronation immediately.

To show that Britt is the Alpha and Omega as far as the Womens division is concerned.

I don’t know why two heels won, and then acted like humble babyfaces afterwards. I get that they didn’t want to heel it up during Martha’s segment, but it almost would have made the whole thing more sensible if they did heel it up (like Owen would have done ala the Slammy Award and “King of Harts”). Otherwise it was clearly done to put over Cole and Britt, who Khan obviously loves.

I mean, it was giving people a reason to wrestle.

To clarify I am very happy his legacy was given a spotlight and that Martha and the kids were involved with the opening and presentation. Pretty much that. Like, I get people want to pick at the winners and how they won and what it represents etc but…that’s what the tournament was about. Bringing Owen’s legacy to the forefront of a generation more likely to know him for the tragedy and WWE’s reaction to it than his in-ring work and promote the work of the Owen Hart Foundation. That’s it.

Assuming it's because Martha was their and she likely has specific requests about the way she and her Foundation were presented. Plus using the "wear your character like a hat..." idiom it wouldn't make sense for either of them to be dicks in that real moment.

To celebrate Owen's legacy in a way that hasn't been able to happen for over two decades. Honestly makes a certain amount of sense heels won even considering he was a terrific heel. Still didn't want Britt to win but I can't say it didn't make sense. As much as I love Joe, I think letting Dax wrestle Cole in the finals would have been more fitting tbh.

It's an accolade, and far as I'm concerned I got a few really good things out of it: Joe vs. O'Reilly was one of my favorite TV matches this year, Hayter vs. Storm rocked and after Hayter interfered in the semis I'm hoping for a rematch, the build to Statlander vs. Cargill appears to be underway after what happened during the tournament, Ruby likely hit her crisis of confidence turning point, Cole gets said accolade heading into what's probably a top spot in the upcoming Forbidden Door build, and I dunno, maybe winning the thing builds to some other matches in the near future that'll get set up Wednesday based off the outcome or something.
Might be better if they explicitly lay out "winning this tournament will result in [X] for the victor", like a guaranteed singles title match or some other prize beyond the award belt/name on the trophy, since right now it does feel nebulous, but hey, Bret winning King of the Ring '93 didn't have any stipulations tied to it, so I'm cool with "this person can now parade around that they won a major tournament against multiple top names."

I get not liking the results but the amount of people calling the tournament useless especially after what was a very well done presentation to the winners is to me both disappointing and alarming

I thought it was all worth it for Martha's moment last night. Incredibly happy for her family and the foundation. I do think they have two paths next year for the Owen and I felt this year sort of was a weird middle ground. You could either just purely have it be the "awesome match" tournament and load it up with your best workers top to bottom. Or you can make a more predictable tournament with a clearer story to the eventual final. I think the issue tonight (mainly with the men's final) is it was just a good match and didn't have a strong story behind it. Contrast that with the Page/Kenny tournament final at Full Gear 2020. That was also a tournament match and the setup was predictable but it was worth it because it had a great story behind it. Like, if you had a rivlary already built into the tournament, it makes the final more than just a match and that can add a lot to it. Like off the top of my head, it would be cool for Jungle Boy next year to beat Cole in the final so he can finally overcome that hurdle and deny Cole a repeat win.

There were a lot of great matches and while there wasn't a huge story to it, the story was inevitably to spotlight Owen and his legacy in ring and after the fact with the Foundation, and they did that
Cole and Baker for their faults are two good inaugural winners even if I wouldn't have gone with Baker if I had a choice, but it was a good way to set up what is likely to be a yearly thing the way they're talking, and if the in ring work stays at the level it did for the next one? It'll be a good time again.

Honestly, giving a LITTLE benefit of the doubt
I think they wanted a couple to win The Owen, and they are the only couple that are top stars. So the logic makes sense
It was still awful choices.

I most likely would be in the minority on this, but I'd laugh long and hard if at the conclusion of next year's tournament Cole and/or Britt come out and claim the 2023 trophy as their own instead of presenting to the winner despite having not wrestled in the tournament in the first place. And then claim to be a Two Time Owen Hart Foundation tournament winner in the weeks that follow.

Cole winning was fine with me but I was super pissed when Britt won, I am beyond done with her and her crappy promos burying everyone and then beating them too.
Putting all that bullshit aside, I was so happy with Martha giving a speech. It's something I never thought would happen and when it ended I was just happy Owen was being honoured.
Sure I wasn't happy with the outcome but I got over it just because we got to celebrate Owen on a pro wrestling show.
