And have a Drew/Cody/Lashley type run. Dude is still relatively young and can maybe come back in the next few years. I’d like to see him win the wwe championship

The thing with Drew and Lashley was that they were both penciled in for top runs from day one of their careers. They faltered due to different reasons and then left and came back stronger, but Vince is sitll wired to think "Yes see they're stars here is the proof of that stardom I was very right". Cardona didn't really have that, and that's going to work against him big time.

If he is allowed to keep his podcast and other external endeavors, maybe. But he seems too engaged in those to go to WWE unless they gave him a dump truck of money, which they won't. It seems like there's been a time or two where Vince took him seriously, but what's making Cardona's character work right now is he's pretending to be a sports entertainer in hardcore pro wrestling promotions. He'd need to be totally different in WWE.

Yeah, like, not even from the usual “he’s free to do what he wants” aspects, the foundations of what is making him work is that WWE history making him a blowhard on the indies and if he went back, what, he’d just be the Woo Woo Woo guy again? You can’t really do the inverse without it getting laughed at on commentary because Vince doesn’t get it. Like, the fact that it went as far as GCW giving him the world title and NWA calling a show after one of his phrases tells me that, well, he could go to WWE but something right now is clicking and it benefits him more to go down all those avenues.

Honestly, he's probably making a good living from the Major Wrestling Figure Podcast, too. They've started their own toy company and have an exclusive Ric Flair bendable figurine coming out, it seems like they're becoming more legit on that front.

Probably. But the dude is known to most of the fanbase as the guy that was buried within touching distance of the earths core in 2012. Dude is going to need quite the rebuild. He also isn't getting any younger.

Thing seems to be always holding live events somewhere or in conjunction with other big show weekends that it seems to be doing well off itself. I wish them all the best with the toy company stuff too since, well, not usual for wrestlers to get into that side of things and if they get some cool licenses from that, it’ll be a nice niche side hustle. Basically, either he gets to keep all that in WWE or he can just keep doing it without being there at all.

I want to see a couple ome-offs where he wins the 24/7 title then takes it to various indies and acts like it’s the most prestigious title that’s ever stepped through their doors.

They'll throw a ridiculous contact offer at him soon enough but a top level run, not a chance.

He'll be a Rumble pop at some point.
Beyond that, I can't see why they'd bother. They never wanted him to be as over as he got himself and they certainly wont accept they got it wrong and bring him back to be anything more than what he was before, and they have enough fodder as it stands.

The day Vince puts the wwe championship on someone like Zack Ryder is probably the day before he sells the company

Wasn’t he the one who told Cody to go back?
I think one day he will return but I can’t see a high level run for him. Drew/Lashley were high end prospects in WWE and pushed way before they were ready. Cardona was never that guy but he could come back to get a good run as a upper mid card guy

I can see them bringing him back with a generous contract, having a strong debut (night after Wrestlemania or a strong showing in the Royal Rumble) then they treat him exactly the same as they did before and he leaves/is released before the contract is up.

Is it possible he could return one day? Sure.
Would he get a Drew/Cody/Lashley run? No chance in hell. He'd be midcard at best. Impact is about the highest level of company I could see him main eventing in.

All I know is my gut says maybe...
if he does come back he'd probably be a more respectable mid-upper mid carder than he was... but I doubt he gets the Cody treatment.
But people keep acting like Lashley was rocketed back to the main event he kinda floundered around the mid card for a bit too until the Hurt Business took off. I could see Ryder/Cardona do something like that and with the right gimmick/timing became at least a part time main event guy.

Yes.
Highly doubt he gets the Cody treatment, but I don't think it's too crazy to think he gets a decent spot.

Will he come back? sure. He said himself if the WWE made a good enough offer he would. Would he get Cody treatment? No. He still in the WWE level would be midcarder at best. Cody made himself a MEer in big stages like NJPW, ROH, and started AEW which again being in a big TV deal like TNT/TBS, and doing stuff like All IN before that. Matt been on top in smaller companies and even if he was Impact World Champion, Impact creditability isn't what it was. NWA World Champion that he has to to give up, again NWA while solid of a product no where close to being considered a big deal. The other titles he held or holding are smaller indies that not many know who or where they are. Drew and Lashley again where slated to be big deals in WWE, it didn't work and they went out to find that missing pieces and got it. Which when they came back it transition well. Again using at the time bigger companies and TNA wasn't in the spot they are in now. The deal with Cardona is that yes he done well for himself. Does what he doing made him WWE ME? no. Would his role be better? Yes to a point of being used more and win more. He still I-C/US champion at best.
