...on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire:
It Was A Thing On TV mentioned this, so I searched it out in the clear, and boy it sounds like the studio is about to turn into hell or some nightmare acid trip distortion when you lose.

I would love a super cut of people who answered the million dollar question and got it wrong.

I would love a super cut of people who answered the million dollar question and got it wrong. IIRC, there was just one? (US version, that is)

I've always wondered if on these really high stakes shows if they have psychologists and/or councilors on staff to speak with somebody that just shit away a million dollars. I've known multiple people that killed themselves over money issues that were a lot less than a million. And there's a lot of depression and other stuff that I could see being caused by a bad loss as well.

Geez, they might as well play the old "You are an idiot, ha ha-ha-ha, ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!" song if they're gonna go that hard.

Geez, that music is unpleasant and creepy. Give me this any day: See that was one of my Nightmare Fuels when I was really young. As it is now, the PIR ones are so ingrained in memes and such that that helped dilute that. Plus, once you get over childhood fears, at least the Losing Horns have a bit of whimsy to them. As for brutal game show loss cues... look up the 1987 version of Blockbusters and see what happens when you lose the Gold Run. It's like a death sound from an Atari 2600 game. Second Chance when you get four devils (there is one example out there, and yes, if the scenario sounds familiar...SC WAS Press Your Luck's not-so-distant ancestor).

Ask and you shall receive.
Technically it's never happened on the British version. Lawrence and Jackie Llewelyn-Bowen got the final question wrong in a celebrity couples edition of the show, however the question was deemed to be misleading (multiple correct answers) so the couple were given a second chance.
Australia has had six million dollar losers in their hot seat format.

And for the US contingent. It's only happened twice. Once with Regis with the clock format and Cedric The Entertainer had one with the Shuffle format.
Here's the one with the clock format.
