I remember back in the mid 90s they would only let you work from home if you were over 300lbs. ![](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/5/55/King-Size_Homer.png)

I wonder if anybody has a drinking bird that the person could use to hit Y multiple times.

So I just watched this episode the other day. And after 1 day of working at home Homer almost causes a major disaster. But what about every single day when he was doing that job at the plant? He would still slack off and sneak out.
Is it just as simple as his work station at the plant having more automated processes?

I know I'm the outlier, but I hope that working from home doesn't become the norm. I've never been in the best headspace when trying to work from home; too many distractions and just being able to leave a work environment to go back to what I consider a stress-free zone.

I'm in the exact same boat. We were all asked to work from home at the height of Covid, and it destroyed my mental health. Because I have Aspergers I can't read people very well, so communicating remotely didn't play to my strengths, not to mention the home distractions and the feeling I was bringing a casual, more abrasive me to the workplace. When we got the offer to return to the office I took it (although I was the only one from my team)
Not to mention I find something really rewarding about getting up, showered and commuting to work. Feels like I'm earning a paycheck.

Working from home should be an option, not a forced choice. Same with working from an office when working from home is possible, I think. Personally, I find home working so much better but understand that isn't the case for everyone. Let people choose.

One of the things I miss from my former job was just the drive to work on Fridays. We had early hours, meaning I had to be there before everyone else got there since I was a manager. No one was up at that hour so I got to experience the sun rising driving through some great rolling hills.

I could never work from home, personally, but I think it's fine as long as you're productive. With how prevalent services like Zoom and Teams are nowadays, a lot of office jobs really don't require a dedicated office.

My office has a work from home option, but the extra roles I take on directly at the center with helping new employees pays more.
That’s in my instance, some of our callers do deal with either mental health issues, physical disabilities, or are working part time elsewhere and it’s more convenient for their own situation.

I work from home now. I can assure you The Simpsons depiction of the concept is about 95% accurate

Being someone in the medical field who, with very rare exceptions, really can't work from home as a matter of principle, is something that will make you wonderfully resentful of those who won't shut up about how super special awesome it is and how much time they have and how they've gotten in shape and they cook everything so super special awesome and isn't this just awesome this should be the new normal for everything buzzword social media influence subscribe to my TikTok.

A muumuu should be the default attire for anyone who works from home.

On the main discussion...eh, frankly, I have no problem working from home. My work place is blended and I only have to be in the office two days a week. My focus comes from being given stuff to do consistently and that's not coming but honestly, the option should be there for people who need it. Because not everyone needs to be in the office all the time when it's either too far from them or they have other commitments in their lives that aren't their job.
Like, I'm not saying people can't want to be in the office, absolutely not, but companies opposed to it don't exactly look great in how they express it.

I have two jobs. My part-time job is as an adjunct faculty member teaching online courses, so of course that one is a work from home gig. The full time job is generally not a work from home kind of thing, as I need access to the millions of dollars worth of equipment my lab utilizes.

Where's the any key?
but really I do not work from home and kind of don't want to. I can only be in the same place for so long before I need a change of scenery. The job I have now I'm in a dark room 90% of the time and there's times I just need to step outside and get some light and air before I go crazy.

It really depends on how much your employer tries to micromanage you from home. Like, where I work, as long as we're meeting out quotas for the day they basically don't care what we do with our days. I regularly leave the house for an hour at lunch for a bike ride/workout and if the cat box needs cleaning or something I go do that. But yeah if the employer is basically spying on you like a bean counter to make sure you're glued to your desk all day you might as well be working from the office.

Working in the civil service in England means WFH has been a massive political hot potato.
I worked from home successfully for 2 years and delivered everything and more. If you want to work in the office, grand, you should. And certain roles need to be there. But tonnes of my colleagues can and have worked from home successfully. Which on a personal level means I get to better take care of my partner whose mental health has been in the toilet since the pandemic started.
I've no time or patience for people who saying WFH needs to end. If your personal situation means you would rather be in the office, or work better in the office, you absolutely should have access to that. Vice versa. Its a non-issue that's being spun and wound up by landlords, c***s and the terminally stupid.
