Still the best one. I don't care what anyone says. Best Hanna-Barbera version of Popeye? Sure. (At least with P&S, I don't have the high expectations of seeing the original gang together, only to see a pacified '70s Saturday Morning version of my favorite Fleischer/Famous/yes, even KFS adventures)

The swirling Hanna Barbera logo for me was always a sign of disappointment as a kid.

The swirling Hanna Barbera logo for me was always a sign of disappointment as a kid. It really does remind me of a toilet flushing.

The swirling Hanna Barbera logo for me was always a sign of disappointment as a kid. See, for me I most associate it with Smurfs, so that's a mileage may vary thing. As for Popeye and Son...heard about it, never got around to watching it. IIRC Son didn't like Spinach even if it had the same effect on him as his dad. Though the son being that age...how old is Popeye really? Most times it was implied he was at least past his 30s (for example, Poopdeck Pappy had a song where he said he was 99). Then again, Popeye was in the Navy during WWII, and I'm sure there was a military age cut off even at those times. ...thinking too hard about this, I know.

The swirling Hanna Barbera logo for me was always a sign of disappointment as a kid. How about its cousin, the flying Gold R-S of Ruby-Spears? In retrospect, perhaps the various DiC logos should have been worse signs of disappointment.

See, for me I most associate it with Smurfs, so that's a mileage may vary thing. There's definitely a few decent spots for HB especially in the latter part of the 80's, but even from an early age I recognized their shoddy animation and lousy, even though they were capable of doing more if they wanted to. It was always quantity over quality, and learning about their stranglehold on animation in general only further fueled my justification. I don't know, maybe I point my finger a little too sharply to HB, but being introduced to a lot of quality animation from other studios from an early age (Fleischer, Disney, WB, ComiColor), I would see stuff that was current and just be shocked at the limited scope of how bad the cartoons were, and most of the time the cartoons were from HB. I know the industry struggled severely from the late 50's until the mid 80's, but HB churned out so much simplistic entertainment, which helped the stigma that cartoons were kids' stuff. Thankfully we are no longer there, but it's any wonder if Disney never turned it around, Don Bluth never branched out, and the investment in Roger Rabbit...where would animation be today?

Random aside with them, I love that when Archie ran their (sadly short lived) Mega Man comic, they had a villain group in one storyline called "Emerald Spears".
