Inspired by the D'Lo Brown chest protector vest that he kept on for a while because it looked good on him.
The most famous examples are Stone Cold's leg braces, the Cowboy Bob Orton Jr. cast and the Greg Valentine shin plate.
Who else had these? I guess DDP could count with his rib tape because he did wear it long enough to get a unique action figure with the tape on it.

I'd count Kris Statlander's knee-brace at this point, I am pretty sure she's had one for either her whole AEW stint or for most of it.

I think Taker kept his phantom of the opera mask long after it was needed. Only got rid of it once he transitioned to Lord of Darkness Taker.

I think Taker kept his phantom of the opera mask long after it was needed. Only got rid of it once he transitioned to Lord of Darkness Taker. He got rid of it at Rumble 96 or soon after, and the Lord of Darkness thing didn't start till late 98! Owen Hart did the injured hand/wrist thing for a long time too. Funny story about that one. While Owen had the gimmick cast on, he got put in a dark match with a very young Rock, so the suits could see how Rocky had been doing in development. (Mind he'd only been there for about 4 months at this point.) The cast was on the arm you always grab in wrestling. Rock had been in developmental so thought Owen had a legit injury and was just soldiering on like a pro. And Rock didn't want to legit hurt worse someone he looked up to in wrestling. So match starts, and Rock went for the other arm, and said it felt awkward, but went for that arm three times before Owen whispered "Wrong arm, buddy!" "Sorry, I didn't want to hurt your arm" said Rock. At which point Owen realised and fell out of the ring he started laughing so hard. Leaving Rock in the ring. Owen got back in and explained it and they had a good match with Owen telling Rocky a few jokes to calm his nerves. After the match, Rock was getting changed when Owen walked into the dressing room and told him he'd just been asked for his views on rookie Rock by Vince McMahon. "I told him you were shit!" (Two second pause, before a huge grin.) "Just kidding, I said you were better than most of the folk we already had." That verdict by Owen pushed forward Rock's main roster debut, but also, the Harts (Owen and Bret) put a lot of stock in protecting other workers. (Yes, I know, the Austin/Owen irony here. I know.) Rock's actions in trying not to hurt Owen struck a chime with both, and they took Rocky under their wing as a protege. Long story short - that gimmicked broken wrist angle's end result was the biggest movie star of the 21st Century! Oh and Rocky says that when Owen fell out of the ring (laughing) there was a loud cheer because, as far as the audience was concerned, this new guy had just punched the dastardly Hart out of the ring! So even when he was goofing, he timed it so the crowd wouldn't cotton on!

I seem to remember Lord of Darkness starting around late 96, it was when he had the bat wings for a short period.

I think Taker kept his phantom of the opera mask long after it was needed. Only got rid of it once he transitioned to Lord of Darkness Taker. Bret Hart pulled it off at Royal Rumble 96 and he never wore it again. Given the injury from Mabel was in the fall I don't think it that long after it was no longer necessary.

I think he was wearing it in the poster art/VHS art for WrestleMania 12, so people thought he wore it longer than he did because of that.

Shawn Michaels and Hunter tried to get Rocky fired/have Vince cut his losses while Bret and Owen took care of him. Sad...

Myron Reed and his D'Lo inspired chest protector. He's been wearing it for so many years now that I don't even remember what caused him to start wearing it in the first place but it's gone through a few different variations.

Why did Owen even start wearing it I only remember him having it on at KOTR and Summerslam was there a storyline reason to this.

Some day, his knee braces and straps collectively decided to keep Ahmed Johnson around.

He's been wearing it for so many years now that I don't even remember what caused him to start wearing it in the first place but it's gone through a few different variations. It was exactly the same reason as D'Lo. A kayfabe rib injury that allowed him to wear a bulky vest that would make his No Cap Splash even deadlier.

Brandon Cutler's been wearing his face mask for almost a year now - and he never actually wrestles.
