Are the WWE and Universal belts only defended together now?

Notice everyone says they want to be the "Undisputed WWE Universal Champion" not "WWE Title" or "Universal Title".

Is there any official word that they are only to be defended together now?

I suppose we'll find out when Roman finally wrestles on Friday. Or we won't because WWE that's why.

My guess is it's a thing where they'll split them when they feel ready to split them but for now are treating them at one, if only because Roman's basically stopped coming to work anyway so trying to work around the logistics of defending two belts is too much of a headache to bother with.

For now, but until they either debut a new design or drop one of the belts entirely, it’s not off the table that the uWu could be split apart.

It'd actually be an interesting angle, a couple of wrestlers planning to wear Roman down by challenging for each belt separately.

Obviously it'd work better with a couple of heels trying to cheat a fighting face champion.

But at this point, it's one of the few things that could be believably be done to take down someone SO dominant.
