It's not everyday that you hear these two WWE superstars names uttered in the same sentence, let alone envision them sharing a ring together given they are/were as far apart from the card as you can get.
As we all know, Brock Lesnar is a nearly unstoppable machine. He immediately made a splash on the WWE scene the night after Wrestlemania X8 attacking undercarders Al Snow, Maven and Spike Dudley during their WWF Hardcore Championship match, while also being accompanied by Paul Heyman, who was seen giving instructions to Lesnar. In his first 6 months, he squashed the Hardy Boys, won the KOTR, put Hulk Hogan on the shelves for the rest of the year, and beat The Rock at Summerslam to be the youngest WWE champion at age 25. He also beat The Undertaker at No Mercy in a Hell in a Cell match.
After Heyman betrayed him at Survivor Series to join forces with the Big Show, Lesnar turned face and even though he lost the WWE championship, that didn't slow down his momentum as he won the Royal Rumble and reclaimed his championship at Wrestlemania XIX in a classic(overshadowed by a botched shooting star press) bout against Kurt Angle. He later returned to the dark side in the summer of 2003 after he lost the belt back to Kurt Angle at Vengeance. They continued their rivalry throughout the fall, this time with the roles reversed.
Towards the end of 2003 and beginning of 2004, a feud was hinted between him and WCW alumnus Bill Goldberg. At the Royal Rumble, Lesnar entered the match(though not an official participant) to F5 him, causing his elimination. The former World champ got his revenge the following month at No Way Out by costing him his third WWE championship reign against Eddie Guerrero. This made their (what should've been) epic showdown at Wrestlemania XX set.
However, word got out The Beast Incarnate was leaving the E to pursue a football career, and that didn't sit well with the audience who made their voice heard at the show of shows. While Goldberg won the match, it didn't exactly set the World on fire as he was leaving as well, and special referee "Stone Cold" Steve Austin(the only one in the ring being cheered) pretty much stunned them out of the WWE, with Brock not returning for another 8 years.
While his football career never took off, the three time WWE champ made his splash in MMA, proving this "fake wrestler" can hang with "real" tough guys and boasted a 5-3-1 record. He returned to the WWE scene in 2012, and with his now MMA credentials to boot, was more dominant than ever, such as taking Undertaker's 21-0 streak, SQUASHING super Cena, and finally got his win back from a returning Goldberg at Wrestlemania 33.
While the rivalry was/is forced, he always had Roman Reigns number until Summerslam 2018. He still continues to be relied upon by WWE today, even to the annoyance of the IWC.
Then there's Heath Slater. The One Man Band was a WWE mainstay throughout the 2010s and even though he was there for longer than what would be expected for someone on his position of the card, he normally was staring at the lights at the end of his matches.
That's not to say he didn't have some success. He's held the RAW tag team titles on three occasions(with Justin Gabriel) and was one half of the inaugural Smackdown tag team champions with unlikely ally Rhyno. He also shockingly eliminated multiple time WWE champion Sheamus at the 2018 Royal Rumble. But overall, he was seen as a comedy jobber, jobber-to-the-stars if you want to be nice.
So how would you, as a booker have this ham-and-egger not only get a match with WWE's final boss, but even have a win over him via pinfall? The man needs to feed his kids, and a victory over their biggest star would do him and his family wonders.
I'd like to see some creative scenarios before I post mine.
