in May 2021 the major movie theaters were offering theater rentals and the fact I didn't take them up on it to have a friends viewing of Pee Wee's Big Adventure or Airplane! has become a recent lament.

On the subject of theaters, last year I found out that Regal Theaters had brought back the Fast & Furious films to be screened. I noticed that Tokyo Drift and Fast & Furious 4 were among the titles, the only two films that I didn't see in theaters. If I had known, I would have gone to see them that way.

Pre pandemic, on the supermarket I go to for groceries, there was this small arcade that had House of the Dead 2 on it. Played the hell out of that game when I was in high school. Not really good at it, but back then with a friend got all the way to the last level. Never got to finish the game. Once restrictions here got relaxed I was grocery shopping in the same place, but alas that arcade was nowhere in sight.

I think this was around the early-2000s: At the center court of the local mall they had this big setup with people selling all kinds of stuff. I remember one table had boxes of wrestling magazines from the early-90s. I didn’t buy anything, telling myself “eh, this will come back again.”
It never did.
Not attending the Hall of Fame ceremony or Raw during WrestleMania 30 weekend. I had tickets for both as part of WWE’s travel package, but I was battling a nasty cold for much of my trip. Plus, I had to be at the airport early Tuesday morning to catch my flight home. If I had known those events would be Warrior’s final appearances, I would have dragged myself to the Smoothie King Center.
I wish I had gotten into investing sooner. From an early age I understood the importance of saving, but no one ever taught me the other part: how you can use money to make more money. I would gladly trade twelve years of gym class for some solid financial know-how.

A bunch of wrestling shows I could've gone to but just didn't feel like. For example, TNA came right to my town and was giving free tickets away and I was still like "...eh."

Putting off going to Linkin Park concerts through the years. “I’ll catch them next time.” Damn… I did something similar with Scott Weiland passing through town and playing a small club nearby. For whatever reason, I just didn't go and now I wish I had.

Mr. T was at the mall. All day I kept saying “I’ll go a little later, I’ll go a little later”. When I got there, they told me he just left. When I asked the mall guy if he’d ever come back, he said he didn’t know😢

Back in the summer of 2007, myself and three of my good friends took a trip across three states to go sight-seeing. Two of my friends had never gone out there before, so for me it was going to be somewhat special in the sense that I would be able to kind of act as a tour guide of sorts. Although the trip ended up being predictably good in the way I assumed it would be, we did get off to a relatively bad start by leaving late. I won't go into details, but one of my friends wasn't properly packed and we also switched cars at the last second due to a check engine light occurrence.
Originally we were going to take my car, meaning I would but the one driving, however we ended up using my friend Jeff's car. If you knew Jeff, you'd know he wasn't the kind of person who wanted other people driving his car, so while the original plan would have had us switching off, he instead drove the entire way, save for a 4 hour pass where he was too tired to drive. Anyways, after we proceed to leave the house, one thing we did not do was properly eat or pack sufficient snacks, so about 4 hours down the road we started to get pretty hungry.
Jeff wasn't one to just stop anywhere, and in many ways would always act kind of like a stereotypical dad that would tell you to go to the bathroom before you leave a place because he didn't want to make any unnecessary stops. In time, I've also evolved into this kind of character, but I digress.
Anyways, Jeff's plan was to gas up, eat and go to the bathroom in one fell swoop, so he was eyeing any Exit that was that one stop speciality. Unfortunately, Jeff waited too long and we wound up in a portion of the state where the facilities were few and far between, plus you'd have to drive out of your way to get into town. Seeing as we already left late, the last thing any of us wanted to do was to lose any more time.
We started to get down to to E, and there was a slight, slight panic, however we finally came to a pretty decent stop. There were a few places we could stop at, but the first order of business was to get gas. We gassed up and then started discussing where we wanted to eat. You had your usual options; McDonald's, Taco Bell, Subway, KFC and Arby's. Thankfully all the options seemed like quick meals that would allow us to get down the road quickly.
The other two friends were relatively neutral when it came to where we should eat, only ruling out Taco Bell entirely due to what he considered to be a guarantee to make additional bathroom stops. We all agreed. Jeff chimed up and said we should just go to Arby's because he liked Arby's. I hesitated because I was leaning towards McDonald's, only because I felt that made the most practical sense since usually anytime someone goes there, you know pretty much what you want.
Jeff naturally thought that since everyone was indifferent going into it, that Arby's was what we decided upon. However before he started the car, I spoke up and suggested McDonald's. Jeff let out a light sigh and said he had McDonald's earlier in the week and it didn't sound too good to him. I thought to myself that it was pretty egotistical to put himself before the rest of us, even if the discussion of food began with initial apathy.
I spoke up again and said that I have only eaten at Arby's a few times and didn't know if I was comfortable without being more familiar with it, plus it didn't help we were still a long ways from our destination and probably wouldn't eat again before we got to the hotel. My friend sitting next to me added that he hadn't been to Arby's in a long time either.
Jeff was mildly annoyed at this point. He stated that Arby's was just fine and that since he was driving that should account for something. I hesitated before agreeing. My two other friends remained silent. Jeff began driving to the Arby's. We passed by the McDonald's on the way to the Arby's and I was going to suggest that we stop at both places but I waited too long before I had the chance.
We pulled into the Arby's and all of us got out of the car. This place was pretty foreign to me, even the layout made me uncomfortable due to my unfamiliarity to their establishment. I could still see the golden arches in the distance and thought about just walking there, but knew it would take far too long, and Jeff would never let me take his car without him being in it.
We walked in and I started gazing at the menu from a distance as I walked toward the counter. I made sure I was the fourth person in our group to order since I didn't know what I wanted. One of my friends kind of challenged me on this, but I won out. It helped that there were also a couple other local residents in front of us, so that gave me even more time to decide.
I knew that Arby's sold roast beef and a few other things, but I still had sold my previous self on a McDonald's burger. I saw they had chicken sandwiches, which of course led me to think about McDonald's chicken sandwiches, which led me to think about McDonald's Chicken McNuggets. Those sounded incredible. I glanced to my left out a window and I could still see those golden arches at a faded distance. My mouth started to water.
A customer had finished ordering. I put my focus back on the menu and saw something called a Beef and Cheddar. I knew this wasn't a burger but I still made the connection to a Quarter Pounder with Cheese in my head. I hadn't had one of those in years! Now would be a great time to get one again. I stared off into the window again. I could almost smell that famous McDonald's smell.
Another customer gone. I pivoted back to the menu. Well, they sold fries...they even sold curly fries. Well that wasn't something that McDonald's had, so that's a plus, right? Well...maybe on any other day. But today the standard McDonald's fries with a dab of ketchup just sounded like the best thing ever. I glanced to my left again thinking about what was out that window.
Jeff had ordered by this time. I darted my eyes around the menu, still not content. Jamoca shake? I don't even know what that is! It certainly wasn't a Shamrock shake, something that McDonald's has, but didn't have at that time, but still sounded pretty good even though I couldn't get it. I didn't take my eyes off the menu, but I could picture the window to my left and knew what was out there waiting for me...calling to me.
By this point, one friend had ordered and the other friend was in the process. I had to make a decision. Should I suck it up and just order something from Arby's...or should I take my chances and hightail it to Mickey D's? I didn't have much time. I closed my eyes and slowly swallowed.
"Hi, what can I get for you?"
"Uh...I'll take a French Dip, a medium order or curly fries and a medium drink."
"That'll be $7.43."
I stood there. The store faded from my mind. I saw myself standing in an empty white abyss with nothing around me. I stood there clutching the little plastic number thingy that they gave me when my order was called. There was no sound. No smell. Just the emptiness of knowing that I wasn't going to have McDonald's. I stood there for what seemed like an eternity, glassy eyes, thousand yard stare. Just kill me now.
They brought out my food and I grabbed my tray. I walked over to the table that my friends had decided on. It felt like I was walking on death row. I sat down quietly and prepared to eat my food. I noticed that one of my friends ordered mozzarella sticks, something that I had completely order looked. They looked pretty tasty, but I will never know. I unwrapped my sandwich and started to eat. It was decent. The curly fries were good too, but I could not get the image of McDonald's from my mind. In my haste, I had forgotten to grab my drink with the cup they handed me, so I made my way over to the machine. I fill up the ice, stopping to dump half of it out since the machine gave me too much too soon. I hold my cup under the Root Beer selection and press the button. Empty. Great. I slide my arm over to the Coke pump and fill it up. I proceed to go back to my chair and finish my food.
We load up the car again with our heavy stomachs and drive towards the interstate. We pass by the McDonald's again and the big M on the sign looked like a big frown to me, as it to deliberately tell me that it was ashamed I chose Arby's over McDonald's. In my head I wanted to plead with it and say that it wasn't my decision, but my friends'! I thought for a moment I actually said this out loud, and looked around to confirm that no one "heard" this.
The rest of the trip played out the way I figured it would. We had a good time. Well, they did. However I could not get over my loss of McDonald's. I'd been there plenty of times before and since then, but the loss was still a loss. I'm older now. A little wiser. Jeff and my friends aren't as close as we used to be, which I guess comes with the task of adulthood. But I still from time to time will think about that one moment, sometimes laying awake for hours and hours thinking about what could have been. I'm loving it.

As a small thing that snowballed into a major thing: I regret feeling that I needed to get a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich about two months ago.

I once got offered the chance to sit in the pavilion at the Oval for an England test match. I felt so much anxiety at the thought of spending the entire day with someone I didn't know who had very kindly offered that I turned it down.

A friend once heard about an upcoming concert in Philadelphia and he wanted to go, but not alone. He wanted any one of us to go with him and he would drive their and pay a scalper for tickets for both of us. I had to work the day after so I begged off and all my other friends came up with excuses just as lame as mine. Dave ended up not going at all. And that is the story of how we missed out on seeing Live Aid.
