I'm looking into expanding my puro viewing beyond the Heisei and Reiwa periods, so what are some must see matches from the Showa period?

You basically can't go wrong with Jumbo Tsuruta vs. [insert well-known American wrestler here], which is what a lot of the major AJPW matches were in the early and mid 80's.
I only know Tiger Mask II's feud with Kuniaki Kobayashi by reputation, but that reputation is that it was the point where the observant caught on that Mitsuharu Misawa was a generational talent.
There's a 9/23/1981 match between Stan Hansen and Andre the Giant that I consider a must-see.

Tiger Mask/Dynamyte Kid (NJPW), Lioness Asuka/Jaguar Yokota (AJW) and the Nobuhiko Takada/Kazuo Yamazaki (UWF) would be my top picks for stuff outside of AJPW.
Outside of that, most anything Jumbo Tsuruta (especially against Stan Hansen) and the Funks/Hansen & Brody Real World Tag League bout in... 84 I think?

Edit: because when I hear 'showa' I think pre-70s Godzilla... 1926-1989 is the Showa era. 1989-2019 is Heisei era. 2019-onward is Reiwa. And, for the record, these eras correspond to their respective Emperors, as back in the day Japanese people would basically reset their callendar to 1 when a new Emperor ascended to the throne and the name of the Emperor (as in, their Imperial name, not the name they were brought up as) would also become the name of the era. So, Hirohito was Emperor Showa and the period Japan was under his reign is the Showa Era.

I picked up a bunch of 80s All Japan tag league tournaments from IVPVideos, they were fun classic-style matches.
