He's always been good at finding someone to ingratiate himself to, even if he also would screw up his spot eventually. It's easier to imagine how he ends up in, say, Ring of Honor or TNA, but knowing what he does from 2000-2002 or so is trickier.

Yep, though he'd already had some years of WWE money and I think even some connection to Lesnar by then, meaning he didn't really need TNA and could afford to do that. He's got some level of pride regardless, or else he'd behave, but I do think they could have got him if he didn't have that leverage. |
