If this thread had a better title, the reactions might be better as well.

If this thread had a better title, the reactions might be better as well. I think it's important to read articles and not just headlines or titles before getting angry. If you don't do that and get angry or upset in an era of misinformation online I really don't think that's on anyone but yourself.

Another reason to listen to the podcast is that he praises the Young Bucks for how they utilise their phones to create wrestling content which have an impact on promos, character development and potential storylines. Their use is justified. Everything is more elaborated as since Regal is a storyteller, he goes in tangents. Reading it on a page doesn't bring out the tone and context behind the points.
(love his podcast BTW)

On the flip side, especially here where we're not a news site looking for clicks...people who read the articles and paste them up should know better and make the headlines better. This isn't me making a statement as a mod, but I'm also saying it as someone who'd rather not deal with the headaches that come from topics.

I guess it's considered an "old man" now to tell people to be productive? If that's the case, then I must've been Methuselah the amount of times I had to explain to my employees that while they were on the clock, they couldn't be on their phones, despite this being in our rulebook. There's a time and place. I also think people jumping to Regal drinking and doing drugs in the locker room is a gross representation of what he was suggesting. Seems like this was aimed at the people who seemed to want help but didn't know how to go about doing so. As long as you're a boss who practices what they preach, I'm fine with that rule. I dislike bosses who bust those using their phones, while I see the bosses playing Candy Crush or sending messages on dating apps while on work time.

I used to sit in the locker room with Undertaker and JBL. I was playing Tetris on my original Game Boy and every time the batteries died, I started singing theme B like "ding ding ding ding ding-ding" and they were applauding.

For me, the rule was different since I did have to have my phone on in order to communicate with the ops department, but I made this point clear with my staff, so they always saw what I was using it for. There were a couple resentful people who probably thought otherwise, but hey...that's pretty common regardless of what the circumstances were.

Ehh, I get some of his points but didn't Regal used to spend his free time getting absolutely blitzed? Being on a phone (which for all we know could be to look at wrestling videos) sounds innocent in comparison. I'm assuming he means when you're sat around for 7 hours before a show with nothing to do

Just not a fan of clickbait and/or misleading titles?

I really do hate clickbait.
I've listened to every episode of Regal's podcast. In context what he says is spot on. He never shies away from his own past mistakes or shortcomings either. He's absolutely spot on with this. You're a professional wrestler, living your supposed dream job, a dream job millions would love to do. The least you can do is during show time be focused on the product, the show, and improving at your craft via studying what's going on or seeking advice from the veterans. It's a far cry from being in a menial office cubicle with nothing else to fill the day.
A veteran criticising aspects or behaviours of the younger generation is not 'old man yells at crowd'. Not everything new or young is always right or better than the old. There's a hell of a lot to learn from his podcasts, even if its just about the history of the business especially in the UK & Europe.
Plus his constant excessive Northern Englishness is a delight. Lost track of the number of times he cracks old pub comic jokes that befuddle his co-host.

I had a boss phone me on my cell during work hours, and this is 2004ish so cell phones weren’t quite as dominant a part of our lives then, and then give me shit for answering. I was like dude, there are 4 people I answer the phone for while I’m at work and logically you’re one of them. My parents and my grandmother (who I lived with at the time) were the others. I was so annoyed over that

Just not a fan of clickbait and/or misleading titles? If you didn't get upset or angry, which it appeared you didn't, then the last part doesn't apply to you so no worries. You can reply to someone while still referring to others and not that person. I fail to see how it came out of nowhere though, there have been multiple posts here that clearly didn't read the article. Far too many people just read titles and form their opinions based on that. Sure the person who made the thread should have made a better title, but deciding to trust another person's summary of an article is something you do at your own risk. Taking someone's summary of what another person said isn't a great way to learn the full story especially when the full story is literally right below the title and is easily accessible. You can blame a bad thread title, but I think people who take a thread title at face value and don't bother to read the actual OP's post before forming their opinions are at fault for the opinions they've formed.

That's like a textbook definition of clickbait. It's a psychological manipulation designed to grab the attention of and provoke a reaction from the reader. Would it be good if people read the entire piece and the nuance within? Yes. But if there weren't literally millions of examples of clickbait working, it wouldn't be used.

Just for reference, while not the exact quote from the article, here's a clip from the same podcast the same discussion where this stuff was quoted where Regal uses the Bucks as an example of improving. Puts things into perspective a bit
.
2nd clip as well
